Instead of just doing the same thing for 30 minutes on a cardio machine step it up....Really really challenge yourself. (Don't forget to warm up & cool down)
Interval training: 1st double the level at which you normally train at...and try to keep the rmp's above 100 for AT LEAST a minute. Then rest for minutes. Do this 4-5 times. Try to get 4 sets in.
So if you normally work out at level 5 ...increase it to level 10 and stay at level 10 for at least 1 min. Make sure that you keep the rpm's above 100...this is the real challenge. Its similar to running sprints. This really keeps your heart rate up and boosts the metabolism. And if you don't have 30 minutes 20 minutes is more than enough time
