I actually sort of started this challenge yesterday, but just joined this site today. I went on a four mile hike yesterday with my 17 yr old son. It was so awesome. We hiked for an hour to a trout pond and than my son fished for 1 1/2 hours and than we hiked an hour back. There were plenty of ups and downs on the hike and the sunshine and the woods and the birds singing were the greatest experience. I am looking forward to a whole summer of exploring the beautiful mountains around me and losing weight while doing it.

Your post reminded me of our camping trips when we were kids. We picked up sticks for the camp fire, set up the tents, waded through rapid creeks, swam in mountain lakes, and went on LOTS of family hikes as we followed trails that went around hills and over rocks. No wonder we were all so thin as kids! No more camping! Now we stay at the Hampton Inn! Ha!

When I was little, and school was finished for the summer, I tried to be outside from the time I got up to when it was bedtime.

We lived a five minute walk from the nearest beach. My mom would pack a cooler filled with fruit and veggies and a thermos of Kool-Aid and take four kids out for the day. And I mean, the day. We'd get there at 10am and leave around 5pm. Swimming, sandcastles, sliding, swinging, running.

And if we weren't at the beach, we'd be organizing road hockey or stickball games. (We lived at the end of a dead end street.)

It's not exercise...it's FUN! And that's the whole point...

They're up in your face, they don't think you belong
Man, you got it, you got it goin' on
What breaks the weak just makes you strong
You got game, baby bring it on, bring it on
