Earthlady's Journal, 30 June 2012

Steady this week which is fine as I'm supposed to be in maintenance mode. Despite that I'm feeling 'heavy', probably PMT.

I'm now on holiday for about 6 weeks. I have my nephew and his girlfriend coming to visit next week but aside from that I can't say I'm excited about the holiday. I really need a complete rest but with MiL in the house I'm not too hopeful about getting it. She just comes along with her bags and stays as long as she wants, which would be tolerable if she didn't try to take over the running of my home. While she's here every day is a struggle to keep calm and try to ignore her!

Anyway, the advantage of being here at the summer house and on holiday is in the exercise - 6 weeks of swimming opportunities and while the weather is good and the sea is calm I'm swimming every day.

Oh dear on the MiL thing! Does she just show up uninvited? If so, how rude...hope she doesn't get to you! Or maybe you should just go ahead and let her take over ALL your household responsibilities...Cooking, cleaning, laundry, dishes, "Sure Mom, mi casa es tu casa...we need groceries, here's the list, and, oh by the way, did you get the toilets cleaned today? They are just atrociously filthy, and could you just hand me that bottle of beer? I'm going to go lie down a bit, I'm exhausted..." (hee hee...)

Actually, Baxie, you're not far off the mark! The less I do the more she does, and if I can put with being unable to find things it works out pretty good! Seriously, though, we started off OK today, and any tension that arises is at least 50% my fault. The whole household is much happier if I just try to be nice to her. It is rude of her to show up uninvited - I went for years thinking it was just a Turkish thing and have since been told countless times that few modern Turkish women would put up with it as I do!
