bizzybee38's Journal, 12 March 2018

I not only fell off the wagon, I bumped my head and the horse and cart pulled off without me. Sheesh, I knew I was carbing and sugaring it up and I expected weight gain, but oh my, oh my. 3.6 lbs gain.

So, I haven't gotten to the place where I can get back on the wagon because I can't find the darn thing! I last ate yesterday at around 7:00 pm so I won't eat again until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. I am drinking water with lemon and I will workout tonight with weights. A 24 hour fast can't hurt, right? Then what?

I have been out of ketosis for two weeks, first week I gained a couple of ounces, this week pounds. I have consulted Youtube and Google about what to do next after I have "cheated" but I am even more confused. Tomorrow will be here fast and I need a plan. Any advice is appreciated.

After I have a less than keto meal I try to stay more carnivore. Mostly meat & eggs to get back into a deeper ketosis. It seems to help. Good luck. It's a nice day to begin again!

Hey Bizzybee38! You'll be allright, get back on that wagon. It's simple, what works and is a fact, eat less than 20 grams of carbs a day. You'll be back burning your own fat and the pounds will melt away. It's a way of life and after you have lost your weight, you gradually, add in carbs to keep your weight off for good! Keto On!

Thank you for the help. I will eat tomorrow and I think I will shoot for 10 carbs or less for the rest of the week in order to help try and get back into ketosis. I love that I can ask for help and people quickly step up to offer suggestions. So appreciate it!

Just got done with a 2 day binge. I don't happen to have a scale with me but I am sure it's up 5 - 7 pounds. BUT yesterday and today I am eating to plan with less than 20 carbs and I will be back in ketosis in a few days. Sometimes life cycles like that and if you beat yourself to a pulp every time it happens you are really doing yourself an injustice. Sometimes we just don't have all the power to do what we should. But the important thing is you recognize it and are correcting it. And soon you will be back on track and losing again. Hang in there and good thoughts your way!

Maxie4- a heartfelt thanks. I got a little emotional reading your post. I am relieved to hear that there is a chance that this weight could be due to retaining water. That gives me hope. Ny_Shelly- I am so thankful that there is so much support on this site. Life does happen and I have to deal with it as best I can. I plan on having some detox tea before I go to bed tonight and I am drinking water with lemon to flush the system.

Restoring glycogen means adding water weight when you go off/out of nutritional ketosis. For each molecule of glycogen it attaches 4 molecules of water. When you dump the glycogen (reducing carbs or have really good workout) your weight will drop. TL, DR---> water weight so you're okay and if you go back to NK you'll see the water weight top off.

Relax, if you gained 3lbs the next day it’s 100% water weight! You’re fine. If you haven’t had any. Carbs forever that’s what the reason behind the weight gain is, refueled glycogen stores, water gained from carbohydrates, food digesting in the stomach, possibly poopy💩 & maybe even regained lost (or new) muscle. This is all TEMPORARY.. it’s ok so, don’t freak out. Your progress is fine. you didn’t gain any fat whatsoever. Just continue as normal with your deficit and you’ll lose weight just fine by the end of the week 👍🏻

And one more thing. Your body will BENEFIT from loading up on all those carbs, so no worries

I gained about 4 pounds after a couple weeks of bad eating. I was actually surprised it wasn't more. A 24 hour fast usually helps me get back on track and then after that I go back to my diet and it usually takes about 5 days to make up for bad eating. It happens more than I like, but I am figuring out how to recover from overeating.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Usually overeating constantly from week to week will Mean more body fat has time to accumulate, but other factors can eliminate that from happening even if overeating is frequent. Which would be things like resistance training and exercise and fasting which are all elements that can get the body to lose fat and hinder more to be gained as well. I’ve noticed in the past that from binging 3 weeks straight for me, coupled with weight training, even though I gained at least 2-3lbs of fat. Some weight was muscle, and after about 1.5-2weeks of being back to a deficit, I actually lost a little more body fat then before the 3 weeks I binged. So there’s many many ways that the body processes extra calories as well as various wasys it gets rid of them or utilizes the as well. So, basically, “overeating” doesn’t become a problem unless it’s for long excessive periods of time to a much greater amount, coupled with sedentary lifestyle. But once every so often, or even on holidays, won’t do any damage at all , and if anything, will benefit the body after longer duration in a caloric deficit 👍🏻
