Moan! I think I'll try a different approach. Diet is so much a mind game. Maybe if I believe hard enough I'm way under calories it will happen faster? Thoughts?

Well, you've lost 30 pounds and obviously have been successful at maintaining the weight loss. The next 10 pounds could/would take 20 weeks to lose and allow yourself the opportunity to continue to eat foods you enjoy. As your body adopts to the energy change you are going to need to be a little more strict on your intake, be very patient, and if don't lose 10 in 20 weeks but are moving in the right direction then fantastic. Attempting to eat too little will have a boomerang effect and leave you dejected. So, slow and steady. Keep at it and be patient.

Truly understand what you're saying glen. You lose a lot then find it difficult to get back on track after a gain.

I took a peak at your stats. I can't tell how many calories you burn daily. I didn't have a clue as to how many calories I was burning until I got my activity tracker. There needs to be a deficit between calories consumed and burned consistently. Your average intake seems a little high if your goal is weight loss. Are you out running the fork? If weight loss is our goal, we need to know the amount of deficit we create daily...

2800 is maintenance for me. I've been exceeding it. I'm under now, but not by much. I'm in the depth of the head game right now.

Don't stop believin', hold on to that feeling! Naw, for real, you're a pro, you've just had a tremendous amount of life to deal with. And Glen cracks me up with his poetic waxing, good stuff.

All good reminders for those of us at this for a while. I really appreciate the insights here.

I am in the same head game right now and trying to kick start myself again, Bruce. Let's have a wager...no, never mind, I hate pressure!

Thanks, guys, and thanks, Phil. We're lifers, man. It has been a rough few months. Dad turns 89 next month. His dad made it to 92. I hope I'm that lucky. I hate that he's so far away. We talk nearly every day. He's doing well.

It's a mind game for sure and lots of things in our lives affect how well we handle it. Hang in there through the ups and downs, as long as we don't throw in the towel we're still in the game.

Pray away the pounds? Put your scale under your pillow? Wish upon a falling star? Lots of options ;)

@Northernmusician, at 2800 calories consumed daily the average person would have to burn 3800 calories a day to create a 1000 calorie deficit. 3800 calories is a whole lot of activity. Good luck with that...

Haha not that kind of mind game! Thinking really really hard does not make a fact sadly. And I agree, don't throw in the towel - down a little is a good thing.

Wish thinking it would make it so, but then we'd all be in our mid 20s, rich, and have abs.

If wishing is where the necessary changes start then it's all good. The mind game is what I call getting my mind right. It is a huge struggle until the resistance to having a right mind goes away.
