Johanne's Journal, 09 February 2012

It's Thursday.

My next cardiology appt is Tuesday morning. Apparently, my Dr is in surgery tomorrow and Monday. The scheduler called me back early this morning. I've had PVCs my whole life. I asked the tech doing the sonogram yesterday is she could see them on the screen. She said, "Yes, can you feel those?" Apparently most people don't feel them. I never pay much attention to them normally. Now I'm really paranoid and they are worrying me. I have a bit of heavy lifting to do to get the car loaded for this week-end and now I'm afraid to do it. Funny what difference a day can make.

I'm holding an informal SCA event this weekend. This is the 15th year I've done it. We started out with around 8 people the first year and the last few years it's been around 64. That's the size of a small official event. I think, with the staff I have set up, the event would pretty much run itself, but I would hate to miss it. I look forward to it all year. It's like a gigantic slumber party for fiberholics. We end the weekend with a caravan to Lawrence Ks to Yarn Barn, a fiberholic's Mecca and have lunch there. It's a college town, so there are all kinds of great shops and restaurants.

I just have to get past the paranoia and get myself pulled together. I need to be at the site by early afternoon tomorrow, so I have to get myself in gear. The last few days have been a total waste.

I hope all my FS buddies have a great weekend. I won't be around much until Sunday evening. I don't have a laptop or smart phone, so when I'm away from the house, I don't have computer access.

Johanne -I am so glad you are feeling better, just don't overdo it :-) Btw, what is a SCA event?

Joelae, the SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism. It's an international Medieval recreation group. We recreate the time period between 600 and 1600 AD, mostly western Europe and Scandinavia, although some people recreate the cultures Europe came in contact with during that time period. In the SCA, I'm a 14th century Norman/Saxon in England. I dress for that period and I'm a Weaver, although I do most of the fibery things like spinning, dying and felting. Other people do other Medieval/Renaissance arts and sciences like armor making, cooking, brewing, woodwork, calligraphy and illumination, leather work . . . basically any and all things that would have been done during that time period. We have one local guy that even makes period eye-glasses. For a little old lady, it's a great social outlet and keeps me active. Since most of my friends are considerably younger than I, it also keeps me young. LOL!

I'm going to try to get my neighbor to help me before she leaves for work this afternoon. Baring that, my DIL is picking me up for our meeting tonight and I'll have her help before we leave the house. I'm probably being TOO careful. LOL! I like life too much to put myself in any more jeopardy than I'm already in. Love you Bren. I'm trying to be a good girl.

Johanne - how much I like to hear about that. I wish we would have something like that closer here in CT. I used to participate in medieval camps in Germany and I loved it so much. I truly understand your excitement and your willingness to go. Have fun!

Bren, I promise, if I get tired, I will stop. I'm scared enough to not push it. I have a list I have to get done, and if I feel that I can't, I will simply call and ask my co-hosts to take over. I even have people who can teach the classes I plan to give if I can't go. I really won't overdo.

Bonnie, funny, that is exactly what the cardiologist told my sister and my dad. Both have PVC's and can feel when they happen...they describe it as being like a pause, then a little stronger beat. You be careful and take care of yourself, you hear...have fun!!! Love ya, my friend! Big hugs!!!

Jozette, you are in the East Kingdom. If you go to http://www.sca.org/geography/findsca.html you can find your closest group. It's a great activity for all ages.

That's exactly what it's like, Stef. Sometimes it's a whole lot of miss-beats in a row. It feels like you have a butterfly in your chest. I love you too my friend. Hugs back.

09 Feb 12 by member: Helewis
@Jozette, there's an SCA chapter in NJ.

Heather, I'm in Missouri. There are chapters all over most of the world. I was originally in Atlantia in the D.C. area. Now I'm in the center of Calontir.

Sazy, thank you so much. I want the cardiologist appt to come up sooner so I can get the whole scoop and quit being so frightened. The fact that they are moving so quickly on this and actually called me within hours with the results is what's so scary. This is one of those times when "no news is good news." Unfortunately, I got almost immediate news which has me maybe more concerned than I need to be? Thanks for the shoulder. I'm sending lots of love in return!

Thanks Sazy. Yes, when the General Surgeon suspected that the attack might not have been a gall bladder attack because there were no stones actually in the ducts in the ER sonogram, that's when he sent me to the cardiologist without scheduling surgery. I think he knew if he scheduled, I would have to cancel. What I'm really glad about is that I DID follow up with the cardiologist. I actually thought about not making the appt because a few people, my mother among them many years ago, had gall bladder attacks and never had another. I believe Stef was one of those as well. I went ahead and made the appt because I didn't ever want to take a chance on being in that much pain again due to my negligence. As it turns out, they don't believe it was my gall bladder, although they know I have small stones. They believe it was my heart. And yes, they called back because it may not be URGENT, but it is something that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible so that it doesn't BECOME urgent. Your hubby is a very wise man. I DO believe in Karma and that I am being looked after. Love you too.

LOL! My mom has had heart problems for years. She's 87. Thanks for giving me a chuckle. Yes, Premature Ventricular Contractions . . . palpitations.
