northernmusician's Journal, 20 April 2016

Whoa there big fella. Too fast. Today is a refeed day. (Just decided.) The loss, though, may have been simply because of when I ate yesterday. After 3 PM all I had was a protein shake. Still, it was almost a 2400 calorie day.

Calipers are saying 11.7% bf. Yeah, I know. They're not that accurate, but I may need to slow it down to retain leptin levels. After the refeed I may bump up a bit in glycogen. I should know an actual weight by Friday morning after the refeed.

I'm considering Wayne Norton's reverse dieting idea once I get into the singles. If actual is in the 187 range, I will bump calories up 100 to reduce the speed of the fat loss.

Great job. You've got a good handle on what's going on w/ your body.

I'm happy to take Niel in any incarnation. The first record (dating myself here) I ever bought was a 3 record Niel Young anthology. My least favourite of Niel was Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, but I love Crosby, Stills and Nash by themselves. How could I possibly chose between Southern Cross, Suite Judy Blue Eyes, or Woodstock. Putting the links above. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a hippy. (Don't let younger photos with long hair and spring bug antennae fool you.) Thanks, Chica et al.

Sorry, Carmen. The theory behind a refeed is to get glycogen stores in muscle back up for better performance. There's also a thought that it fools the body into allowing fat to be more easily released. The second one is endlessly debated and I hope the debate doesn't begin again here.

Well I was a hippy, and damn proud of it. "Make Love not War" "Peace" ✌️ Rebuffed the war but never the soldiers. "Flower Power" 🌻 🌺 🌼 Mother Earth 🌎

I don't listen to him much. I think he's a great musician. It's just not my style. Nothing against him.

Great music...do you caliper yourself? I have calipers but it is hard to do to myself...and my husband stinks at it. I only go by the same trainer using the same calipers. I suppose you can do one spot on yourself at the hip, right? Great work, Bruce.

Hcb remind me later and I'll send you a link to a simple version.

HCB I've found it hard to caliper myself too. Using my wife's makeup mirror on the magnified view helps but still not easy.

This is the site I use http://www.weightrainer .net/skinfoldbf.h tml and get yourself the accu=measure caliper. An indicator clicks in place when the proper resistance is hit so you don't have to try and see where the arrow is while you're measuring. Way easier on everyone.

I actually do not have a plan I really never thought I would make 175 now I'm thinking I might want to go to 165 but still no plan I don't know whether it means increasing the amount I eat or exercising less

Unless the level of exercise is getting in the way of family or personal obligations, you should continue. If it is getting in the way, reduce it to the point where you still get the base benefits. If your exercise levels are okay, I'd say increase your calories. There's no rush. If you're counting calories, increase it by maybe 100 calories and watch your weight for a week. If the losses slow, but do not stop, add another hundred for the following week. Since you're not sure if you want to go to 165 anway, this seems like a logical way to proceed.
