warrenwinter's Journal, 16 March 2016

Hello, and a best of a Wednesday to all of the FatSecret community. Today, I must begin my preparation for my biopsy procedure tomorrow. I try and be as light humored about just about everything, but this will challenge that. I am glad, that the long wait for this, is finally being reconciled.

Warren's Diet Tip of the Day: What is the Glycemic Index?
Using a scale of 1 to 100, Glycemic Index- GI is a numerical index of how your blood sugar is affected within two to three hours of eating foods that are high in carbohydrates and how they turn into blood glucose. The glycemic index is about the quality of the carbohydrates, not the quantity.

Glycemic load
The glycemic load (GL) of food is a number that estimates how much the food will raise a person's blood glucose level after eating it. One unit of glycemic load approximates the effect of consuming one gram of glucose. Glycemic load accounts for how much carbohydrate is in the food and how much each gram of carbohydrate in the food raises blood glucose levels.

i don't agree with the foods at the bottom saying the best for diabetes. I am in keto and my diabetes is at the perfect mark now and i cant eat 6 of those items...looks like the government food pyramid....example beans 14 carbs 1/2 cup...the less carbs you eat the better for diabetes...remember that.

Good luck with your procedure tomorrow.

Thanks for noting that Fred. I appreciate the dialogue, as all this is off the internet, and is up for debate. I am not a diabetic, and really have no prior knowledge, for the most part, but thought it may help.

Ok, thanks. It's funny, Misty, I worked with kids for 36 years, but have none myself. I have a stepson from my first marriage. I sympathize with you about your daughter's driving. Just let her get as much experience with an adult, as much as possible. I know it is nerve racking. As an old guy, I have seen a lot of tragedy.

Just saw your avatar. Jimi Hendrix would have been 70 today. The biopsy... always better to know. We're all pulling for you.

Thanks guys! I will worry when they say I'm positive, and not before. No worries, even though I think it is appropriate to quote Jimi Hendrix, who I saw perform his last concert in Los Angeles at the Fabulous Forum. H e often said," I hope I make my 28th birthday!" He didn't!

The concert was April 17th, 1970, and I remember it being the craziest concert I had ever been at. No one would sit down, and security was in force and trying to get people to go back to their seats, that were crowded around the stage. When he finally came out, the crowd went in a frenzy, I saw a man, who had taken off his clothes, and was running nude, with officers chasing him with a huge blanket. About a half dozen cops caught him, and you could see his legs flailing out of the blanket, after they took him away. After Jimi started, he announced a number of times, that if people didn't calm down, he was going to be made to leave. He only played 1 hour and 18 minutes. No concert ever matched, that crazy concert. They have the concert recorded online.
