warrenwinter's Journal, 09 March 2016

Today, I am going to get on my soapbox a bit! Yesterday, was a very emotional day for me. First, I got emotional about my transformation here, with all you wonderful people, and later, I began looking at some of my good buddies calorie charts. I got emotional again. I once spoke of the difference in playing fields, that so many have here. The huge struggle these people have. We see a few, like Phil, Sugar Waffle, and others, that have made dramatic losses in weight, but there are others, that have a "MUCH TOUGHER" road. We as members, need to show MUCH MORE COMPASSION for these members. They work as hard or harder than some of us, and aren't rewarded like some of us. IT ISN'T FAIR!!!!Not everyone's metabolism is healthy. PLEASE! SHOW YOUR LOVE, AND COMPASSION FOR YOUR BUDDIES, LIKE THESE PEOPLE!

Warren's Diet Tip of the Day: BE LOVING MEMBERS TO YOUR BUDDIES, THAT STRUGGLE!

My Dad used to say, be kind to everyone you meet, we're all on a hard road. Thanks for your reminder, Warren!

I agree Warren that we are all on different paths bit I also see lots of folks who have had to struggle to get to where it looks like it is easy...but I know it wasn't. These folks share their knowledge and also support when asked...sometimes even when not asked. I try to do the same with my different perspective although I can never truly know what Phil, Bill and others have gone through to get to where they are at today. I do know that some people say they want to lose weight but have a terrible time getting their body or mind to cooperate with their desires and goals, that is not always their fault, but sometimes it is as they don't want to make the changes in their lifestyle necessary to reach their goals. In my opinion nobody is perfect, but on the whole this is a very supportive, inclusive, loving community...we can improve but man it could be lots worse.

Sorry Warren, just my opinion..not trying to stir things up buddy.

I believe we have all struggled and continue to from time to time; some individuals seem to forget what it was like starting out. Very well written Warren, this world could use more compassion and empathy in every part of life.

Great post and comments! And all so very true...it's easier for some of us, harder for others, and so good when we help each other. :)

All very valid comments. I think it is, pardon my pun, food for thought. I have a hairdresser that cuts my hair, that probably weighs 450 pounds or more. She has no interest in losing weight, and loves food. I wish I could help her.

Great words for the day! Over a longer period of being on FS, we see transformations and those who are not yet ready to change - like your hairdresser, but I feel those who show up here will eventually get the courage to change by watching the success of many.

I would also like to say, I wasn't trying to take ANYTHING away, that Phil, Sugar Waffle, and others have accomplished, they are the real heroes of this site.

Thank you Warrenwinter. I have many heroes and heroines on here! Everybody on here has something they contribute to inspire us to be our best. Even the one's we don't think they do at the time.

Thank you! I was only trying to point to the most successful members.

Hey, thanks for the mention, brother! I'm willing to help anyone that seeks help, while at the same time I know that a lot of people don't want help. That's a tough act to balance, especially when encountering people that are openly hostile to the way I've lost weight. I get a bit frustrated when people lament their inability to lose weight but when I look at their diet calendars they're doing everything they shouldn't be doing to accomplish their goals, or even worse perpetuating myths that do a disservice to anyone that reads it and doesn't know better. I skip commenting on a lot of posts and probably should refrain from commenting on so many more because I recognize people that aren't serious about weight loss, or worse, they're looking for an argument. All I can do is offer what I've done and set an example. There will always be people that criticize for whatever reasons; they have a competing methodology, or they're just jealous. My hope is that my net balance has been a positive contribution, I certainly don't want to be responsible for having discouraged anyone that's sincere.

You know the saying "All roads lead to Rome"? Well, I do think many different roads can lead to health, as well, but some people's roads are much bumpier, more slippery, or uphill than others, and some people start off with more issues making it hard even to simply walk (figuratively and/or literally) than do others. Sometimes we can walk together; other times we can walk parallel and wave to one another in encouragement; still other times we can pat each other on the back at (metaphorical) rest stops. But each road is different. A do feel that compassion is one of the highest of virtues. Additionally, I agree with you regarding members who consistently provide input, advice, and encouragement for others here. I definitely admire their dedication and helpfulness! And I admire YOUR honesty regarding emotion. A see being able to express that emotion to others as a strength. You are stronger for your honest expression of feeling, for not limiting yourself in this way or keeping yourself pent up! Best of luck to you as you walk your particular road.

Sorry, but I'm having sign in issues with my laptop! This is weird! I hope I'm back! Lol

Wise words Warren. ;-) I think sometimes the genuine desire to be helpful gets lost in the brusqueness of the delivery. If you tell someone enough times "they don't care enough" or "they'll never succeeed unless..." some people just quit trying.

Thanks, I'm back now. That was strange! It obviously, is a debatable issue. I mean, "be compassionate", what does that really mean? What can we do, but encourage others. I guess I was feeling conflicted, and would like to see everyone achieve their goals. To be honest, I had never recognized, UNTIL NOW, lol that I had weight issues. I began losing weight, and then came on this site, when two doctors said I was obese. I laughed in their face, but now I know I was overweight. I only hope I can keep these results, and I hope I realize, that this is a complete diet, life change, and I want to find a happy place here in my eating. Thanks so much for your comments. I think it is a healthful debate, and all of you have made wonderful points. Thank you!
