warrenwinter's Journal, 04 March 2016

Hello, and Happy Friday to our FatSecret community! Another gorgeous day! Funny, I feel at peace being here alone, after a crazy day running around Long Beach, with the lady pictured in my profile picture, hitting all kinds of estate sales, and buying ridiculous stuff to throw in the garage. She is a longtime, fellow teacher, and ski friend. I bought some Coconut Oil at Costco, and am wondering what anyone knows about it? I notice very high in calories, but I hear is great for digestion.

Warren's Diet Tip of the Day: Low-fat = low good! When foods are stripped of their natural fat to make them less caloric, they taste awful. To compensate, manufacturers add salt, sugar, and preservatives, and these aren't good. All, bad stuff in large quantities. Your body releases insulin to clear this crap, but without fat, and lots of insulin, your brain triggers a hunger response. So even though, it has fewer calories, your brain is signaling, EAT MORE! End result= WEIGHT GAIN!
262.0 lb Lost so far: 8.0 lb.    Still to go: 2.0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.

Rckc, It was $20 for two pretty large containers, I would tell you the size, but I left it at my friend's house. lol

Thanks Warren! I will have to check it out.

Rckc, one thing I do remember, is it is 120 calories a teaspoon. Yikes! One lady there told me she puts it on her skin and loves it. lol She says it's a miracle for her skin.

Watching a show called "Filthy Rich" and this is truly sickening how spoiled wealthy people are. Just craziness! One guy spent 1.7 million to have a dinner, marriage proposal with a woman he liked, and she said, "NO!". lol

Coconut oil is amazing stuff. It has a very high smoke point, so if you wanted to saute some shrimp, scallops or chicken medallions....excellent choice. You can use it to make a version of bulletproof coffee, mixing in a couple tsp with hot coffee, cream, spices/sweeteners, and blast with an immersion blender. The middle chain fatty acids are excellent for people who exercise and workout. For skin, excellent moisterizer; for hair, excellent mask. For teeth, use it for oil pulling. This is a very old ayurvedic (sp) practice, used to cleanse the mouth/gums/teeth from bacteria and whiten teeth. My daughter uses it to remove eye makeup. Hope that gives you some ideas for using it. =)

I just read about different uses for coconut oil and tried shaving my legs last night with it, lol. I told my husband it was too expensive to use for that. I really liked the feel of it as a moisturizer tho. I use a tbs in my coffee every day and love it!

Wow, thanks Annie, I have frozen shrimp in the frig. So I will cook those. It sounds like miracle oil. Thanks!

I will use it on my teeth! I'm real protective of them.

Just an FYI... The organic, unprocessed coconut oil- like Spectrum, will taste more like coconut, and it tends to be more expensive; the cheaper LuAnn brand types will not taste of coconut oil. So, if you don't like the taste, LuAnn's is the way to go. When you oil pull, pull it/slush it for 5-10 minutues; and spit it into the garbage. You don't want to swallow all the bacteria; and you don't want to send that oil down the sink pipes. Looks gross, sounds gross...works amazingly well!

Annie, I don't have the bottle, I left it at my friends house, but when I get it, I will talk to you about the brand. It was $10 a bottle at Costco. Where do you buy the Spectrum?

OMG! She just gave me those satanic, Girl Scout cookies!
04 Mar 16 by member: warrenwinter
Spectrum and LuAnn's are both at WalMart now. They used to only have LuAnn's. There's lots of other brands out there, but those are two that I am familiar with. To the Girl Scout cookies, just say "no". And tell her to back away slowly, so nobody gets hurts. (Whenever I was given temptations like that, I'd smash all the cookies and throw them out the window to my chickens and turkeys.) Just an idea.
