Fast day... well at least most of it. I'll see how it goes. Looking for the benefits, not necessarily the calorie reduction, though that's a bonus. Steely Dan morning. Gaucho

MY NEW STUFF!!!

<img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d111/northernmusician/Plates2_zpsbfnzh8r4.jpg" border="0" alt="Oly bar and plates photo Plates2_zpsbfnzh8r4.jpg"/></img>

Olympic bar and the weights for it are new. That's 290 pounds on that bar. It should keep me busy for a while.

I did the math and I've now broken even. The inventory:

Power rack
Olympic bar
250 pounds of Olympic plates
2 - 1" straight bars
500 pounds of weight 1" weights (I'll sell half now)
3 racks for weights
Cable pull down station
EZ Curl bar
Trapezius bar (welded it myself)
Old school chain drive rowing machine

All in, and after lifting for 3 years, (and just now feeling I understand how to put it all together) I have spent the same amount of money it would have cost me for 3 years of gym membership. Next up? I'd love to have machine for quads and hamstrings. Maybe I'll hang onto those 1" plates for now. The big issue will be commandeering more of the basement. :|

I'm too old to hurt myself. Caution is a watchword for most of us when we hit our 50s. That doesn't mean lifting light, it means lifting right. I love it. Besides, the danger is in a gym with other people. I've seen guys catch a glimpse of some girl in spandex and the guy almost twist his neck off. I've seen them lose control of weights by being caught off guard. I've seen guys give up on lifting for the day and just sit there swivel necking. (By the way. Why are we guys forced to wear baggy stuff and t's with sleeves when you guys can where that stuff?) No ladies in my basement. It keeps me focused. :)

Okay, I can still get hurt. *sigh*

As we mature more focus is needed to prevent injuries... specially from the wife :)

LOL - Northern. I agree about "lifting right" - I am fortunate at my gym the trainers watch my A$$ when I go heavy - corrections happen and I am grateful.

Bruce, You can't blame me, because at my gym I'm a frumpalooza!
