I have worked my butt off this week and last, logged my food and drink onto my Fitbit app, and I am still gaining. I burn more than I take in every day, but I don't think my body is going into starvation mode like it has before. I drink plenty of water during the day, my salt intake is not any higher, I'm not bloated, I don't need to poop. I don't know what to do anymore. I've never had any trouble losing weight when I've been serious. And I have been serious. I eat proteins, carbs, fiber... I'm not pigging out on sweet tea and Doritos every day that's for sure, and I'm staying active. I'm afraid to exercise more and eat less because of the starvation mode factor, I'm afraid to eat more with no more added exercise to counteract starvation mode. My Fitbit app keeps telling me I'm under target every day with my calories, but I'm not hungry so I don't eat. I don't know what to do.
180.2 lb Lost so far: 9.6 lb.    Still to go: 20.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 3.3 lb a week

That last 10 pounds has been the downfall of many a good dieter because it is so hard to get off. Don't give up. Maintain that weight a couple of weeks then restart your program. I think your body likes the weight you are at now and is striving to maintain it.

I noticed on your history that you are not tracking food on this site. Are you tracking it elsewhere? I find tracking as being very important. Also I don't believe in a "starvation mode". Your body will adjust to the reduced calories by trying to slow down but if you eat less than you burn you will continue to lose weight. I would recommend trying to cut your calories by 100 per day to see if that shows any progress.

For almost everyone it comes down to eating reasonably and exercising. If you are eating healthy and exercising, I would recommend patience..

I heard an interview where the person had been studying so-called "starvation mode" and definitively said -- based on their studies -- it does not exist. He said the finding did not surprise them since it would be maladaptive from a survival standpoint. If you were a hunter and not finding food you would need all your resources to survive; shutting down wouldn't help. That is NOT to say you should lower calories. It helped me to know these three things: 1) Newly formed muscle (from exercise) can retain water 2) burned fat can leave cells retaining water and 3) the body has a 2-4 lb range of water retention on an every-day basis. So don't panic! Your "gain" is probably only water and will flush out, probably very soon. If you are a weekly weigher, you might sneak in a weigh-in in a few days and see if that isn't so.

Yea, "starvation mode" is controversial. Some say it does, others say it doesn't. Are you taking your measurements? Are you doing any new exercise or changed your current exercise plan? Muscles retain water with new/change in exercise. This can make the scale go up temporarily. If you are losing inches, then you are doing well.

VERY good insight guys!!! Thanks so much for your support. I have been logging all my food on FitBit, but I LOVE the journal option and all my buddies here on FS. Don't know what I would do without you guys.

I wouldn't let yourself believe that fasting is a bad thing. The body is an amazing machine. I believe dieting is the best, when trying to keep an even balance, but in reality becomes a struggle with indulging, and fasting. Remember, its a long haul that counts.
