Johanne's Journal, 21 January 2016

Went off the tracks over the weekend, two parties, and brought food home. All of it was gluten free. All of it was healthy. Unfortunately, gluten free and healthy doesn't mean low calorie. Back on today. I MUST journal my food. When I don't, I gain. It's as simple as that.

Thanks, Heather. At least I didn't gain back the whole 5 lbs. :-) Why is it so easy to gain and so hard to lose?!

I've got to journal my food also to stay on the right path. Good news is most of the weekend gain is water...get back on track and it can drop fairly quick. :)

And also remember: Gluten free and healthy are not synonymous. Unfortunately for those of us who must eat gluten free, the reality is that many gluten free foods are way too high in simple carbs. Most gluten free flours are like eating right out of the sugar bowl. The only way I manage to stay on track if I am going out is to make sure I don't go already hungry. In other words, if I am going to a party where there is likely to be a lot of stuff I can't or shouldn't be eating, I eat a Luna Protein Bar in the car on the way there. So when I get there, I am already full, and then I give myself permission to eat all the veggies I want, but stay away from the carbs. It is not easy, but I've found it's much harder for me to avoid messing up on the weekends if I let myself get hungry. Johanne -- we're all here for you. Tell us how we can help!

They were made-from-scratch soups, multi grain gf bread, cheese and chocolate. One of the soups was a spicy, organic Icelandic lamb, 15 bean and bell peppers soup . . . delicious. I'm still eating it. :-) The other two were just as healthy but much more calorie dense. Those are the ones I shouldn't have brought home for leftovers. LOL!

Oh boy tough one. I can relate. Now that the party is over you will get back on track. I'm here struggling with you.

Sounds so gooooood though! I like to think that even though healthy food sometimes has lots of calories your body is thanking you for eating *real* food.
