Yes! Today is my one year anniversary on my weight loss journey. Wow. What a year it's been. I don't wanna say that it's been a tough one, a rough ride or anything like that, because in retrospect it really hasn't. I have accomplished so many goals - small and larger - and I am super happy with my results.

My initial goal was to lose 45 kgs - 100 lbs - in one year. I found that goal to be VERY ambition, but kept telling myself that I could do it if I put my mind to it. I think that is key for the success I've had doing this - putting my mind to it.

Now, I reached those 45 kgs lost much faster than I ever thought I would. It only took me 7 months to get there. Of course, after that I kept going, though I started to lose weight slower, and eventually plateaued. I had to re-organize, modified the Spike (Scoopy?) Diet to my liking and needs, and have even gathered a little following of people doing the same thing. I get great results from this, and from what I've heard others are too. If you're curious about it, check out my bio here on FatSecret - it has information about what I do and how to calculate it.

So, getting closer to my one year anniversary, I reached 63 kgs lost, and I stopped losing weight again. This time, I believe that bread and rice were the culprits, and I did a shake-up of my food intake. I had regained a little weight - about 6 kgs - much to my dislike. It was time to set a goal.

9 days before today - last Monday - I decided that I had a goal to reach. By my one year anniversary - today - I had to be on or below 90 kgs. It's a ridiculously high bar to jump - I had to lose 6 whole kgs. I figured that most would be water retention, and took is as a motivator to get that done. I've worked relentlessly on it for those 9 days, full focus on food, and some exercise where I could get to it. I suck at exercise. I really do. Most of my weight loss comes from calorie deficit. Anyways, this morning was the big morning, and I was dead nervous to see the results.

So what was the result, you ask? :)

Drumroll, please!

I weighed in at 89.6 kgs! YES! I did not only just barely pass, but I passed with room to spare, gold star and everything!

I am honestly amazed that I was able to pull it off. Honestly, it has been a little too much for my liking to do this for 9 days as focused and intense as I have. I prefer my weight loss to be comfortable and relaxed, and I will go back to that. I have, however, learned a little about water retention and rice/bread/potatoes/pasta and the other things that we are told to avoid. I think they're right when they say that. I have had very little of it, and shed my water retention like crazy. Actually so much, that I am down one notch in my belt this last week also. Last hole. I gotta make a new one. :)

So what's next?
Well, it's time to set new goals, at least for my mental comfort. I'm not gonna put my big goal up here just yet, but I'd rather take it in smaller increments. I don't feel like I'm in a rush, and I don't really need the ticker to remind me. What I do has fortunately become habit, and I love calculating my foods before I eat. It's all part of it. Eating without calculating is like going shopping without pants.

I had a talk with my doctor the other day. When I reach "normal" BMI, and have held it there for (I think) 6 months, I will qualify for government funded "loose skin removal surgery", or whatever it's called. It's a very ambitious goal for me. There is still quite some to lose to get there, and it's also gonna be a challenge to STAY there. But it's something that I have to do. I am this far now, and the loose skin is starting to annoy me, so this sets the bar for my ultimate goal, even if I feel that it's actually a little too low for my taste.

My ultimate goal is reaching at BMI of 25, which will be at 77 kgs (170 lbs). This means of course that I have 13 (28.6 lbs) kgs (well, actually 12.4) kgs to go.

I'm giving myself plenty of time for this, but I hope to be able to do it in 4 months. That's my goal for now. We'll see if I need to adjust it. I can tell that it takes much longer to lose weight now than it used to, but that is all part of the game, isn't it?

So, by February 4th, 2012, the goal is to weigh 77 kgs or less! And no, I will not set my goal here on FatSecret. I like my blue ticker. I think I've earned it already.

Okay, enough of my rambling. I am one happy dude today, and as you know - happy dudes write longer journals than dudes who are retaining water.

Guess what! Life IS good!

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING....... I am so, so pleased for you. You are a fantastic example of what can be achieved, when you set goals, educate yourself, adjust your "lifestyle" where needed and then focus on that goal. Anyone out there who is consistently moaning about their lack of weight loss - This man has PROVED that with the right attitude it CAN be done :-). Life sure is good
