re-posting here, reminding myself :)
I found my calorie requirement by weighing every day in the morning, checking how many calories I ate the last day against the current weight, modified by how late I ate, how much and how late I drank water, and by regularity.
I hear so many people, including Doctors, saying everyone is different.
I think only different in what they are missing. Which micronutrients, Minerals, fats, carbs, proteins are way out of balance?
I think our bodies require all the same things, but when missing a different mix of the required, then we are different in how our body will respond to any diet or activity or treatment.
In our culture, the things we lack the most are: B VITAMINS, minerals, and a proper balance of all the rest.
Consider the corporate domination of how food is grown and provided, causing depleted soil, Radiation of foods, genetic modification, which improves the LOOKS, but steals nutrients.
Most of us, CRAVE foods because we lack those nutrients, and/or need to have incredible self control to keep from gorging near the end of the day. We crave because our bodies are in deficit, and willing to just get more calories instead of what it really is lacking.
My personal belief is that most of us skimp on the most important meal of the day: breakfast! thinking if we have a huge breakfast we will overeat all day. Not true for me, since when the body is properly nourished in the morning when we NEED it for all day, we don't CRAVE anything after 3pm.
I'm 72, studied and practiced: diet & exercise, nutrition, herbs, alternative medicine, weight training, most of my life.

Good comments Bill! I don't eat a big breakfast but one packed with nutrients. Makes a huge difference in my day. B vitamins are a biggie I know I add those as a supplement just to make sure. Lots of varied veggies are also missing in many US diets which means people are missing those micro nutrients.
