kingkeld's Journal, 21 August 2011

So, today is the day after my 2nd spike day - and MAN, did I gain since yesterday! I am perfectly fine with it, I have done this long enough to realize that this is not fat gain, but simply imbalance.
I mostly lived off pita breads with shredded beef and lettuce yesterday - we went to an all day outdoor concert thing (which was great!), and there was very limited choices of food. So of course, this would be the best day to put my spike day, right? I managed to get within 100 calories from my spike RDI, and it was quite a mission. Coming home last night, I weighed 4 kgs(!) more than in the morning. So I guess 1.8 kg gain now is not TOO bad.
Also, the other numbers on my scale (Fat percentage, visceral fat and BMI) are all funky today. This is of course related to the other.
I think it's just water retention (mostly) and having eaten crap food and probably tons of salt products, this is what'll happen.
On a different note: It was so great to meet old friends at the concert. Many did a double take and could not believe it was me they were looking at. Several made comments that I am now lighter/skinnier than them, and that I make them look bad (in a humorous way). Now it's time for THEM to feel bad about their size! lol...
All in all, a great day yesterday, I'm fine with my weigh-in (gain was expected) and now I am curious to see what results it will bring through the next week.
Life is good!

How fab to meet "old" friends who can boost your confidence with compliments about your weight loss. I guess it's a little scary to get on the scales and see a big hike up... But you are right, probably water with all the salty crap food. Lad you had am enjoyable day. :-)

You are doing so well! It's good to hear that you are not getting hung up on weight fluctuations. There is always a moment of panic when the scales go up a bit but as you are doing everything right, the weight will continue to drop. After my spike weekend last week, another pound has come off this week. I think it keeps you sane to have an indulgence day and it helps to keep up your metabolism. You have lost a huge amount of weight, my target weight! What an achievement!

When I see the big fluctuations, I try to use common sense and know-how to see what's going on. I think almost everyone here on FS have learned that 3500 calories equals a lb of fat. So when I gain 1 lb, I usually remind myself that I did NOT miscalculate 3500 calories since yesterday, and therefor - obviously - I did not gain a pound of fat overnight. That should put things in perspective. :)
