Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 14 April 2015

Weight is up a tad but I wanted to log for the start of the challenge. I probably should have done that yesterday.. that requires advanced thinking and stuff though so? Oh well. If all goes well I will lose alot of weight over the next couple weeks and it won't matter.

Day 1... so far I think I'm doing ok with the challenge. It helps that I've lost my voice. So yes.. I did mouth several curse words this morning but no one could hear them so it was like saying them in my head only I didn't.. and I'd probably be failing miserably right now but I have no voice. The first when I walked into the kitchen to discover the sink overflowing with dishes. The second when I discovered the toothpaste with its cap off on the floor about an inch from the toilet.. ew.. just ew. I don't care how many days were left in there it got tossed. Next I discovered little man had no pants. None.. nada.. not a pair. He was very proud of himself for throwing all of them into the washing machine though. Along with several wet towels... and his dads barn clothes.. and lord only knows what else. This is what happens when you're sick and you and the baby turn in at 9:30 and leave the little man to his father and the preteen to wrangle because he declares he isn't tired!! Oh and then he takes off his pants and jumpes on the couch. But you've had a headache all day so you look at your husband and declare. That one's yours, this ones mine (the sleeping peanut). Good luck.

Food today should be amazing. I have plenty of healthy snacks. A salad for lunch. I got scrambled eggs and bacon at the cafe. A coworker looked at my breakfast and commented that.. my diet may be slightly flawed. I think it was the bacon that got to her. She then attempted to claim that bacon was processed!!! *Gasp* No.. bacon is pig. She thinks bacon is pig that was processed. We agreed to disagree. New motivation.. eat bacon and lose weight to prove that you can lose weight and eat bacon. Because in a perfect world.. that is true. Also I have a firm disbelief against eating like I dislike food. I think you should workout so you can eat food like bacon. So there.. eat bacon.. stack 20 hay bales. Problem solved. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Tonight's workout will be hay bales, raking the yard which is currently a war zone of tree branches, dog poop, and gravel. Throw stick at dog poop maker in hopes she takes said poop somewhere in a field instead of in the front yard. And the elliptical because.. I have to prove that bacon is good. Very good. And should be consumed making food sex noises while your coworker comments about bacon not being a diet food over the cube wall before throwing wadded up post its at you.

I lost weight without giving up bacon. Sacrifices must be made, but bacon will never be one of them! :)

I don't believe in giving up any foods, and really, who doesn't love bacon? The real issue is moderation. Too bad the husband and preteen can't get their stuff together - two of them and they still can't watch the little man! My first day went mostly well - 30 minutes of walking, no cussing at anyone, no nose picking in public or private, but I did eat snacks from a box. I believe I will fail miserably on this part of the challenge - we'll see.

Unless you have super high-blood pressure, it is very difficult to eat too much sodium. The whole sodium thing is mostly a myth. It is more debatable whether the nitrates pose a serious risk, but you got to live a little in my opinion.

LindaLee, I am certainly not discounting your story or your loss, but one case is anecdotal. If I were in your shoes, I would probably see things exactly the same as you and choose not to eat bacon. But, even if you have a controlled study, it is very difficult to isolate the effects of eating bacon on occasion. Based on the evidence that I have seen, it is a risk I am willing to take and moderate to low levels of nitrate consumption are not a major concern to me. Each person should look at the evidence and assess the risks. Your concern is valid and a good starting point for people to be aware that there is a possible concern with processed meats. There are also alternatives such as celery cured bacon, but they still contain nitrates.

I don't eat bacon often because I got to stop my bp meds by being crazy careful about the salt. But bacon is GOOD and definitely belongs in its own food group. Ok day 1 of the challenge: I failed miserably. I don't count the chocolate cake donuts because I always have them when I'm out with the hubby, but yesterday I had 3! Now I could justify this with the fact that because of the truck breakdown on Monday I didn't get any. So averaged over 2 days that makes 1 1/2 per day, a savings of half a donut per day. Ok not bad. We were so behind I didn't get my mini walks like usual, for the second day in a row, but got some shopping for my first new dress in years. Didn't cuss in front of the Amish or children, but was extremely sarcastic to idiot drivers. Today's God is good. I'm eating my way through the rainbow and trying eggplant for the first time. Got most of my usual long walk in. Had to stop a mile early thanks to new blisters, one of which tore open, sigh. I'm thinking bacon and eggs for dinner tomorrow. Hubby likes that. Will have potatoes O'Brien with them for the veggies. Gotta finish that Afghan, only 10 days to the wedding.
