onmyway's Journal, 16 January 2015

I feared a little spike this morning, as the soup for last night's dinner had a lot more fat/calories than I had planned. It did leave me so full, though, that I skipped my last snack of the evening. This morning, down .8 lbs from yesterday's weight. I'm recording it, but think I'm going to start only doing so once a week (even though I will weigh every day as my doctor requested).

When you weigh over 200 lbs, it takes a bit more weight loss before it becomes really noticeable to you. Yesterday I had my first sign....a hooded sweatshirt I just received for Christmas last month. When I got it, it was kind of baggy but the band at the bottom of the sweatshirt fit a bit snug around my hip. Yesterday I put it on...it's not catching on my hip any longer. It hangs way below. A small success, but a nice one.

Another little success. I did my 10 minutes on the elliptical yesterday, and then added 5 minutes on the stationary bike. No pain, no spasms in my hip. Hope to do so again today, but will see as I have a lot of walking to do during errands this morning. Also, what I thought was a cold coming on seems to be a sinus infection instead and I'm feeling run down.

I don't have today's meal plan complete. I usually have it done by the night before, as I don't like "winging it" if I don't have to. Breakfast is an egg with avocado and a slice of toast. For dinner, I'm picking up some type of fish at the market that I haven't tried before....one of my goals is to try new seafoods and find some I like other than tuna and salmon. Lunch I'm not at all sure...if nothing else I have soups and chilis in the freezer.
231.0 lb Lost so far: 2.0 lb.    Still to go: 61.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Thanks! It's such a slow process, it's always nice to see some little change to give incentive and motivate.

Every little bit counts. I lost 65lbs by just counting calories a few years ago. Now have to get back on the wagon and do it again. I know it has worked in the past and with some hard work and determination it will happen again.

You remind me very much of myself. I find I do best when I tweak my lifestyle change as I go along. When recording my weight stopped being motivational I chose to record my weight less often. After a tough couple of days with cravings and unhealthy choices I've decided to tweak my food journaling and record my off-plan eating BEFORE I eat it to see if it curtails it at all. As far as trying out a new fish, you might try rainbow trout. I am not a fan of tilapia, cod, catfish and most other white fish. For some reason they seem too moist. My new favorite is rainbow trout sprinkled with seasoning and baked. I put it on foil and use a spatula to pick up the meat leaving the skin on the foil for easy clean up. You sound like you'll do very well as you think through the best strategies for your new lifestyle!

Mepo....I lost about 50 lbs calorie counting a few years back. While dealing with health problems it came back...and brought friends. lol Because of that time, though, I know how my body loses weight and it helps me a lot to know that.

Hipaagrammy, I actually looked for trout yesterday and couldn't find it! I located a seafood market across town though, and I'm going to try to make it there today to see what they have available. My local stores don't seem to have a lot outside of the tuna, salmon, and tilapia varieties. I like tuna and salmon, but don't want them all the time. I'm okay with tilapia but it's not as nutritious as many other varieties...and I'm trying to get as much of my nutrients through food as I can. I'm with you, though, I don't like my fish to be too moist. You get me, I do basically journal my thought process. It helps me. I do tweak my food as I go along, but always try to start out my day with a basic meal plan. When I don't have a plan, that's when things spiral and I don't make good choices.
