Holding steady and happy about that. Had some late night binging on peanuts. I am reminded that I must always be on guard because when the DH gets something for himself, his early training is to offer what he has to others. While this is polite and would be kind in other situations, it really makes sticking to my resolve so much harder. I will need to get up and go do something else when this happens because right now I am having a hard time just sitting with the person who is at heart a grazer and wants to be with me while he is munching all day long. Removing myself from the place the snacking is taking place will be a tactic only until I can gain enough will power to say no when it is anywhere from 10:30 to midnight. That is my weakest time period.

10h30 to midnight - sounds like a reasonable hour to go to bed! (that may be why you're vulnerable, you're tired)

AND NOT ONLY is that a good time to go to bed BUT :) it's a good time to talk DH into going with you WITHOUT the peanuts! A "better offer" just may get HIM to "change heart" :) ....I'm going to try that with Keeper. That is the time he breaks out the peanuts too. :) Here's to SUCCESS!

Now I understand, Thanks for the suggestion. I am a night owl and have been all of my life. I can go to bed earlier, but sleep doesn't come until about 2 most nights. Even as a kid, my parents would go to bed at 10:30 but I would be sitting up under the covers with a flashlight and a book. I do note that having enough physical activity in my day makes it easier to get to sleep at night. My Husband is a morning person awake at 5-6 and has his peak activity hours between 7am to 2pm. I may be awake earlier, but don't feel energized until 10 am, then really enjoy getting things done later in the day or evening when most people are starting to wind down. When you consider that I eat dinner around 6, then when it comes to the hours I struggle with, it has been enough time to get hungry again. Sometimes a cup of hot tea will be enough.

Well, you could eat something with protein. Peanuts is not all that bad, depending on the amount you eat. One trick is to not be hungry, the other is to not see temptation. Maybe is DH is a grazer, you prepare something for both of you to graze on. Then he won't be at your side with something you'd love to eat but is not within your diet regimen. Or get out of the room and do something else. If there's something I've learnt, is that managing life is all about 'tricks' that work for you.

My DH likes sweets at night. Ice cream, cookies, pie. But I like salty or savory so I'm seldom tempted at night. But make popcorn and it's all over for me.

I understand about being the night owl. I myself start getting hungry again around 11 p.m. I snack of fruit most of the time, but sometimes the bad things sneak in also. I know some fruits aren't good for your diet either, but i haven't checked out which ones yet. I don't each much canned fruit at all though because i'm diabetic and i know the sugar content in those are very high. I'm trying the going to bed thing, but it's not until 12:30. Be strong.
