HealthyBabs's Journal, 10 June 2011

So I have been kinda quiet the last couple of days. You all know I have been nervous about increasing my calories. I know I was dangerously hovering around 1100/day and I know that is not smart. Thanks to all the thoughtful advice from some of my good buddies here on FS I have made a conscious effort to increase to 1600-1800/day. I am having a hard time with the volume of food so been trying to add in higher caloric foods such as avocados and the like.
As I expected the scale climbed up slowly 3 lbs this week...tried to be patient, tried not to weigh in every day, tried to just stay on track with increasing calories and hoping and praying the scale would turn around and start to show me some love.

Dare I say I think it has started today!!! I went from 253 down to 251.2 this am. Please Lord stay the course, I am working so hard at this!!!!
251.2 lb Lost so far: 25.8 lb.    Still to go: 91.2 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

Dear Babs, Sugar I know it is HARD....and I've been stuck myself on a plateau at 188-190, and been eating after supper before I go to bed and so I am having to really discipline myself to stay pretty close to the 1500-1600 calories. Taking in less than our basal metabolism makes our bodies think that we are STARVING and it starts to not repair things, and "save" nutrients and energy, so in the short and long term the only way we can lose the adipose tissue (fat) is to burn it up with exercise. I'm not sure how much you are moving and exercising but increase it somewhat, don't go overboard and try to run a marathon, but just increase your exercise a bit. Stand when you can instead of sit, or walk in place when you stand, the WEIGHT WILL COME OFF I promise you. Also eat things that have high fiber that make you feel fuller longer. I have found that black or brown beans are a good one and I eat irish oatmeal (or oat groats) and they along with a cup of skim milk, keep me from feeling hungry. I also try to eat at least an OUNCE of nuts a day,, almonds or walnuts and they have calories but FIBER...I am trying to get 25 grams of fiber in my diet each day....I use some flax seeds (ground) in NON fat yogurt. Come on, Buddy! I know you can do it, we'll help each other! ((((hugs)))) God bless!

Babs, I made a "diet shake" in my blender with 2 cups water, 2 cups ice, 2/3 of a cup of dry powdered milk, some vanilla, some malted milk, and a bit of no sugar chocolate syrup. I blend it then drink and it is very satisfying and really only has the calories of the 2 cups of skim milk plus about 100 for the chocolate and the malter milk. It fills me up and encourages me to drink extra fluids too.

Good evening, Babs! When I checked earlier and you hadn't yet entered a journal I was about to pm you to see if you are okay. It seems you are better than okay, you are doing GREAT! Congratulations on your weight loss and your patience! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

I'm so proud of you for sticking with it. Glad to see the numbers are going down again. You'll be SO much happier and healthier in the long run for having jump started your metabolism. Way to go! :-D
