Deborahg382's Journal, 20 September 2014

Well I've made a few changes. I am cutting ALL artificial sweeteners out of my diet. That means no sugar free Iris cream coffee (boo hoo hoo). No Fresca soda pop! No crystal light in my cool whip for lemon flavoring. I think the hardest part is the coffee cause I love my morning cup. I have also stopped adding "extra" fat to my daily menu. I eat fat, but its not in the form of extra pats of butter or coconut oil. So my fat is about 65 to 70%. It was as high as 80%.

I am trying a new approach to keto. By lowering my fat but increasing protein I will tap into (so they say) into my own fat stores. I've been on this new lower fat now for almost a week. My weight is at its lowest that I've been able to maintain. 213. I am excited get these 13 lbs off to get out of the 200's and in One-derland. Its a slow process. I'm motivated, and excited. I fast tomorrow! :)
213.4 lb Lost so far: 36.2 lb.    Still to go: 73.4 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

Question: Isn't upping your protein counterproductive to the Ketogenic diet as, too much protein can act like carbohydrates in the end. Even the New Atkins endorses this, that protein must be moderate. Quote from Keto Clarity Book: There are three reasons why people fail to reach a ketogenic state: too many carbs, too much protein, and not enough fat. Once you find your carb tolerance, the next thing is protein tolerance. The distinction between low carb diets and keto is that low carb is high in protein and keto is low in protein, because the body can't store protein it turns into SUGAR. So when we eat too much protein, it acts like a carbohydrate.

Thank you C67241. Yes, high protein is no good. But I was eating so low that my hair was falling out. I was too low. So I upped it. IT amounts to 360 calories in protein.. not too high at all. My fat intake by not adding extra fat is 66 to 70%. I have been stalled for a good while. So I decided to give approach a try. I've been testing my blood ketones, and am registering nutritional ketosis. So far so good. My hair stopped falling out. So I am in a good place there. But I agree with you, too much protein is NO GO, no good.

Sorry to hear that your hair is falling out, that is enough to make anyone stop dieting period. Glad that it stopped falling, and you are finding the right amount of protein to stick with it.
