*Starshine*'s Journal, 15 August 2014

It might look as though my weight's stayed the same this week but there's a whole further explanation behind that. In reality, I've managed to lose three (yes, three!) pounds this week. After last week's weigh-in, I shot up to 185 so I've been battling to get it down again day by day over the week. I've been grimly determined with my food and exercise, forcing myself out of bed in the mornins to get in a couple of 6am runs and thrashing the hell out of the cross-trainer again too. Now, if I can just keep resisting the *temptations*, I can keep things going in the right direction.

My temptations always seem to involve celebrating one thing or another at least once a week. I'm really good for 6 days a week but then some genuine reason will bring on another *temptation*. The week before last, it was a friend's wedding reception; last week, it was the submission of my book manuscript; and yesterday, it was successfully securing the funds we need for an apartment we've been trying to buy for the last five months.

As a result, I was absolutely dying to 'celebrate' last night but that would've meant wrecking my almost perfect record on nutrition and exercise. It's really hard to think of ways of genuinely celebrating that don't involve calories; for me it's always been going out for a slap-up meal with some top-class booze. It was especially hard that my husband wanted to do just that, and I had to say 'let's not actually - celebrating with an extra load of calories will just wreck my week's plan.' He's seen me drop the last 100 pounds and, quite rightly, he knows just how easily it would be to pile it back on again. I'm lucky he's so understanding and gets just how hard it is to get rid of this last stone.

So this morning, my weigh-in was just where I wanted it to be. No apparent change from last week's number but, in fact, a big change over the week. And, like the last few days, I've planned and prepared all my food (and my husband's). That's trickier than usual because we're doing renovations on a property at the moment, where there's no running water yet or fridge. Still, I've made it this far. Got to get through the weekend, without 'celebrating' (or perhaps I should call it 'calorating'), but looking good for the moment.
