So I'm breaking my personal rule about only weighing in on Sundays!

I did a cheater weigh in after I worked out on my new elliptical machine (more later), and because it was below 300, which is HUGE for me... I wanted to record it! Seems my DH's joke about working out until I was below 300 was oddly correct!

I'm sure it's just water weight having sweat from working out, but regardless, it's an actual weight. It's all about perspective. In January I was 339... it's now early May and I'm below 300... that's a lot of weight... I'm not sure I could carry 40 lbs of weight around anymore!

So about the elliptical machine... it's a hard workout! It took me about 10 minutes to get the heart rate strap to work... of course it would have only been a minute if I had read the instructions that said to moisten the sensors ... LOL.

I tried out the heart rate program for 15 minutes... but the "fat burning" range is around 130, and my heart rate was around 140-150 for most of the time, so I don't know if that's the best exercise approach for me right now, but it's neat that it would adjust to increase your heart rate or decrease just based on the reading. So I just did 15 minutes... was definitely hard, and I'll work on 15-20 minutes on it this week.

After I got off the elliptical machine, I tried out my DH's new recumbant bike... he got a nice little machine there... the seat is actually comfy! LOL I did about 10 minutes and I was done. I did a few sets of free weights, but nothing to write home about.

When I contrast the amount of time on the machines versus the "Walk at home" DVDs, I can do the DVD for 45 minutes and the machines for 25. I'll have to evaluate which one is a better workout, or switch them up to make a balanced workout.

Does anyone have opinions about DVDs vs workout machines?

Hope everyone had a great Monday!

Get exciting!! The elliptical is a difficult machine I think. Doing 15 minutes your first time on is awesome! I used to do 10 minute sets when I used one. I'd keep using your dvds too. First, you don't want to get bored... second, just ease the new elliptical in to your plans. Slow and steady. So awesome that you are already down 40 pounds! Stupendous!

Congrats on the new century!!!!!!! It took me a while to work up endurance on the elliptical too...I think I could only do 5-10 min my first time. :) What I did when I used to do cardio was decide how long I wanted to do it for, then split it between elliptical & treadmill. I'd do as much as I could on the elliptical then finish on the treadmill. I think it only took a few weeks before I was able to do the whole thing on the elliptical.

Congrats on making it out of the 300s..it's an awsome feeling. I agree with everyone that said to switch out between machine and dvds. I've found that I can actually burn more calories doing the 5mile dvd than I can on the elliptical. Probably cuz no one is telling me I can do it and only a few more to go like on the dvd...hehe. Congrats..keep up the hard work.

Thanks Everyone!! @ Chris - I completely agree - I find I feel like I work out harder with the DVD because it only seems like in a little bit of time it'll be done... and if she can do it, I can do it... but on the elliptical, only I know how long I'm going for, and I can stop at any point and not feel like I'm giving up... and not wanting to give up is what keeps me going on the DVD!
