Socolova's Journal, 03 July 2014

Half a day today at work then 3 days off! Woohoo! I decided yesterday that I am not getting enough protein so I doubled-up my breakfast whey protein shake...I'm not a big meat eater and don't really care for eggs so this is the easiest way I can think of to gain some extra grams (would love other suggestions). So we'll see how that goes...hopefully I gain a little extra energy from it too, last weekend really wore me out!!! I officially have 6 people signed up for my weight loss contest starting on the 20th and another 8 strongly considering it...so I'm super pumped for that!! Sometimes money is a good motivator for losing weight, shouldn't be, but it is. Other than that, we are heading back to Iowa for the weekend to hang out with friends and family (that's where we're from, right on the Mississippi), should be an awesome time! I get spoiled during the summers because we get to see our friends more, I miss them....Wisconsin is great but our friends back home are pretty stinkin cool! Well, I hope you all have an amazing 4th or post-Canada Day weekend or whatever else you have going on! Be safe!!!

I use the protein shakes too but only post workout. They're a great way to get protein and keep the fat a little lower. Have a nice day tomorrow. Wisconsin. :( I lived there for two years. They had this place with frozen custard. As I recall, the fat content was so high it was illegal to sell it in Illinois. You know how it is in Wisconsin. Anything dairy is above reproach.

Dairy Dairy Dairy...that might be the state motto ;) Have you ever tried vegan-protein shakes? I was just reading up on them, they have 3x the fiber, 5 grams less protein, and about the same fat...I'm trying to find something a little more well-rounded...

I like babybel light cheese 50 calories & 6 grams of protein, fage greek nonfat plain yogurt is 130 calories for a whole cup & as much protein as a 4oz piece of chicken breast (23 grams of protein, & PB2 powdered peanut butter is 5 grams of protein for 2 TBS & only 45 calories.

Your welcome, also if you eat lobster, costco has baby langostino lobster tails & they pack 16 grams of protein for 51 calories! They're expensive but I like having a natural alternative to the protein powders, shrimp & crab are also good if you can eat seafood.

The brand of yogurt I like just came out with Greek and it has 12 grams protein, holy schmoly, for 100 cals...so if I do the two shakes plus that I'm already up to 60 grams...woohoo!

there's a ton of ways to get fiber. If you have to go processed, fiber one original cereal is a great snack that gives you 14 grams of fiber (over 1/2 your RDA) for 60 calories (& it really keeps things moving :o) I like it because I eat it as a snack but if you want to stay away from processed foods or wheat/gluten you can go with ground flax, super seed beyond fiber (natural fiber from sprouts, beans which is powder form, plain pysllium husk powder (found in the laxative section) which is just ground corn husk. Watermelon also works as a good fiber.
