Weight loss slowing down to a crawl again, after a two week cut, but I knew this would happen, so it's not a big deal. I vowed to readjust all of my goals starting July 1st so that I would be looking to lose about one pound a week going forward.

The days of the two pound a week loss are just over, plain and simple. There comes a point where there just aren't 1000 calories per day to cut anymore to end up with a 7000 calorie per week deficit anymore.

I met a man last week who told me about this HCG diet he was on where he claimed to have lost 25 pounds in a month. I really tried to withhold judgement and tell him I was happy for him, but said I was content to lose my 8 pounds/month. He persisted and said, "Wouldn't you rather lost 25 pounds in a month?" I had to say, "No. i don't believe in crash diets. I didn't gain it that fast, and I don't believe it's healthy to lose it that fast. I'm also not certain you didn't lose lean muscle during that time. I've worked too hard to gain muscle to risk losing it."

I hated to sound like I did, but I don't like when people "discover" something then try to push it on you. For me, it's about learning that there is more to life than food. That's my big lesson in life. For this guy, he took it off fast, kept it off for about a year, then gained it back because, according to his wife, the minute football season started, he went back to drinking beer and eating pizza and chicken wings with blue cheese.

The way I see it, he suffered for a month, lost weight and felt good, but didn't really learn how to eat well, didn't change his eating habits one bit and has now gained back 15 pounds. So not as much as before, but still...he now needs to lose weight again. Meanwhile, I don't.

I asked him how he planned to deal with the gain and he said now that hockey and soccer season are over, he will do a modified version of the same diet before football starts up again in the fall.

Can you say yoyo dieting?

I didn't bother to remark and changed the subject.

I try so hard not to be judgmental, but sometimes it's hard, especially when guys like him are trying to tell ME what to do! LOL.

I try to remember that we are all on our own path and we have to do what works for us. Right now, a pound a week seems to be what my body is willing to give up, so I'll take it, even though more would be nice.

At least you are realistic and will feel alright about losing one pound a week. Way to go on standing your ground on the importance of learning healthy habits during your healthy, gradual weight loss (versus the quick fix of fad crash diets).

A lb. a week off consistently is pretty awesome. I would take that any day over a quick fix. You are doing great!

It's about picking something and sticking with it without ignorning calories. Just about anything works. You're right about the losses slowing down as you get leaner. Fat has to be maintained the same as any other tissue in the body. When it's been reduced... less to retain which simply means, as you said, there's not as much to cut from. Consistency and patience is all it is.

Thanks, all. I look at my chart over the past 10 months and I admit that for all the complaining I've done (and thanks for putting up with me), I'm still thrilled with the results. There have been no "real" failure months, which is to say, not one month where I haven't lost at least 4 pounds. I'll call that a win. Going forward, who can say? Time will tell, but I won't quit, just keep tweaking until I find the thing that works best. Neon suggested going 1000/1400 every other day, something I had not previously considered. May be worth trying!

The guy will figure it out one day... maybe. Some never do. But you have a lot going for you, determination, commitment, motivation and FS. You are doing great. And I enjoy your posts! Some people are only in it for vanity, others for health. I would like both! I want to feel and look better. When one calorie or nutrient combination stops working for me, I'll try another. I'm not as active as some other people are, and I'm shorter than some.. so I need less calorie wise. Losing slower is better for a person's body to adjust, but it does help to have enough of a drop to keep motivated.

Wow, MrsMole, you are doing great! January had 31 days and I only lost one pound. That was a gruesome month for me and it was purely a lack of fiber.
