And there it is. (Check the avatar.) My little 12 oz sourdough monster outgrew its 32 oz jar. It's ready to be used. I'll get the bread started today. I should be able to pan it tonight and bake it in the morning. Sourdough bread hits the body differently. As a fermented grain it is far more accessible to the body and less prone to cause the gluten/starch issues of a bakery bread. The problem is... I have to wait until evening to have some. :(

Do you like my salt and pepper shaker holder?

Weight dropped. I believe that's pretty close to what actually low glycogen/water weight will be. Let the whining commence.

"See how nature - trees, flowers, grass - grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...we need silence to be able to touch souls." ~ Mother Teresa

You're all going to wish I were Mother Teresa before I'm done. :(

I don't know what to comment on.... the goop growing out of the jar, the s&p holder, which is so very cool or the quote from Mother Theresa. One question... do you put sugar in your bread and how much?

I'm scouring the web for a recipe right now. I used to have one that was published in Harrowsmith magazine 30 years ago which was incredible. There is very little sugar since the fermentation/leavening process has little to do with sugar. It's completely macrobiotic.

We make sourdough bread too. This culture should make a great batch of bread, yummm - my biggest problem is the butter!!! :)

When you find it, please share. My son talked the other day of bread without sugar or very little but said it's costs a fortune. Would be cool to be able to make it for him.

I've heard that sourdough bread reacts differently, but it has to be the real sourdough bread. I bought some at a big health food store here and occasionally eat some with a bunch of real butter. Very satisfying.

A lot of what they call sourdough breads are made in bakeries using commercial yeast and vinegar to get the tang. They are NOT sourdough bread. Neither are sourdough breads always tangy. I'm hoping this batch is. He looks like a very virulent little monster. @Jeedah - You need to switch to a high fat diet. ;)

Baking bread is my next project. I've only tried twice -- killed yeast first time and unwittingly slit the rise on my 2nd attempt. Third time is the charm, right?

Put the monster in the new jar at 9 AM. I didn't feed it. It's almost doubled again. :-0 LuC2. When I was about 22 I was living on my own and desperately missed my mom's home made bread. I bought all the ingredients including and a big bag of flour. It took me all weekend to get it right. I think it was about my sixth attempt.

Northern, don't forget to post your "foolproof" recipe when you're done :D Maybe then I'll have the courage to give it another go!
