I'm sure that having Vertigo has contributed to my weight loss. If anyone has any thoughts, ideas, pointers on how to avoid the violent effects of benign vertigo please don't hesitate to pass them on. I have been in bed for 4 days and have been utterly miserable. I went to the doctor on Wednesday and she said to do the Epley Maneuver until I had relief. I have been using that and another Maneuver from the Univ. of Denver. Thank God for Youtube. This is one of the rare moments when the room isn't spinning out of control. Is it passing? I wish I knew. Thank you my FS Buddies... Mardee

Mardee, I had benign vertigo three times and I was miserable, and I had to take Dramamine or Meclizine or Bonine. I couldn't walk at all and was vomiting. My son googled the Epley Maneuver and I recovered. I figured out that it was caused by me moving my head around too much. I would sit between two or more people and when each person spoke I would turn my head toward them. All this head turning shook up my inner ear and brought on the vertigo. Now I sit on the end and look at everyone so I don't have to turn my head too much. Hope you feel better very soon!

I also had benign positional vertigo a couple of different times. I did the exercises which are horrible when you're already dizzy but they did help. My doctor told me that if the exercises didnt help (mine did) that surgery was a possibility in the future. Feel better.

Thanks everybody!! And Deb I have been using the Epley Maneuver and it has helped dramatically... Can you tell me how long yours lasted? Mine has been about 5-6 days. I will keep in mind about turning my head as well. I think mine may be related to possibly too much salt and water retention. I have been eating 1500-1800 calories before I got the vertigo so I don't think it was not eating enough. I so appreciate everyone's concern and responses!

My vertigo only lasted about three days. I'm sure I lost weight during that time, too, because I could not eat anything due to nausea and vomiting. I drank tea sweetened with honey or 1/4 cup of grape juice or water. A few months after that, my husband and I were getting ready to go out of town and I was rushing around in my home trying to pack and get things done quickly and suddenly felt vertigo returning. I stopped and remained calm and told myself that rushing will only make things worse. Relaxing and deep breathing helped, and also that Epley Maneuver. Mardee, I hope you feel better very soon!

Hi Deb... Thanks for your thoughts... The Epley Maneuver has been life saving! Do you remember how long you did the Epley M. after the vertigo symptoms seemed to pass. I still feel hazy but am not actually suffering vertigo at this minute. If I do the Epley I have a little dizziness so I was curious if there was a time limit on how long to do the Maneuver... Thanks again!!

Mardee, I never do the Epley Maneuver after the vertigo is over. I have forced myself to calm down and do not jerk my head around much. I try to turn my whole body toward the person I am speaking to, not just turn my head. I haven't had vertigo for about 7 years, but when my Dramamine pills expire, I buy a new pack and keep it in my purse. Just in case. I hope you are better now!
