I followed. The South Beach Diet almost exactly to the phase one sample menus. I continued to eat mostly items on the phase one list and added a few from the phase two list. I am diabetic, so I test my blood sugar frequently before and after eating new additions to my diet. I have been able to keep my blood sugar levels under 140 with diet and exercise, and taking Janumet medication twice a day. I lost about eight pounds on the phase one diet the first two weeks. I have continued to be careful of what I eat, and only occasionally indulge in pizza and Mexican food from restaurants. I continue to lose weight, but more slowly, about a pound a week.

Today I am starting a strict regiment of the phase one diet to try to lose at least five pounds in the next two weeks. I'm okay with slower weight loss. It took me over ten years to put the pounds on. I don't believe in starving myself to lose a lot of weight too fast.
