FitOKay's Journal, 11 May 2014

So, I seem to be stuck between 1400-1600 calories lately. I am still assuming this is hormone related with the new med and will even out- since I've never had this much trouble limiting my calorie intake befor. My lungs have been doing very well though, so yesterday I decided to try and offset the calories with exercise. I biked for half an hour 4 times yesterday. 2hrs total and enough calories to keep me at a 500 calorie deficit for the day. Woot! Surprisingly my legs never even hurt. I even had the resistance back up on the higher notch again.

You know what does hurt? My abs! I was reading Euheide's journal about ab workout and was like... you know what I never want to get? A hernia... maybe I should strengthen my abs a bit, just in case that could help (idk if it can or can't, but it seems logical). So I did 50 crunches and felt fine... until this morning. Oh man my abs are protesting seriously. Still did another 50 crunches this morning, hopefully my abs get use to it soon, lol.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Happy Mother's Day!

Wonderful bike workout and ab work! Happy Mother's Day to you!

Wow! 2 hours indoor cycling! :) It's definitely great that you're not experiencing DOMS :) Don't forget that even the Brazen Fit Ab Challenge starts out with only 5 crunches, 5 leg raises and 10 seconds plank heheheh. Doing 50 crunches right at the start is probably too much! :) But yeah, the abs appear to adapt surprisingly fast so you're probably going to feel better soon but, if you don't, just reduce the number of repetitions and when you feel better again, gradually increase ;) As for the hernia. I really don't know :P

Oh, and a Happy Mother's day! :)

Regarding the hernia, even if the abs don't help, they're still definitely worth it! Feeling toned abs is awesome! :)

It appears that, if you don't already have a developing hernia, that doing abs, at the very least, can't cause a hernia! heheheh

Per my trainer give your muscles 2 days between workouts to heal. I tend to not pay attention and only skip one day...I feel better that way.

Recovery is definitely important, 1 day might be ok depending on the specific muscle group. What I've heard is that, for big muscles, it takes a longer recovery whereas small muscles recover faster but I don't know how accurate that is heheh.

Lol wholefoodnut, I'm with you, skipping 2 days seems an awful lot =p

Lol euheide. Recovery is an interesting concept. As for too much I tend to start where ever I'm comfortable the first day then just keep there through the soreness. Normally no soreness by day 3 and then start increasing =p Not sure what my daily goal amount is yet though o.0

If you want an easy way to tone up your abs, try reverse breathing. You take deep breaths with your stomach (so your stomach expands instead of your chest), but instead of expanding when you inhale, you pull your belly button towards your spine, then expand your stomach with your exhale. It helps your abs get used to being used a lot, and will help with the soreness of so many crunches at once. Another good thing to do is planks, if you can.

Interesting. I stomach breathe anyways- with my lung issues it helps to get more air in. I will try what you suggested tomorrow morning after the crunches, should be an experience if nothing else ;-)

I'm getting 3 days recovery after a week of hard physical work and recovering from a respiratory bug, no gym. Sat was not much exercise besides walking, Sunday I was just lazy, today is back to my desk job then a 2 hour drive each way to my granddaughter's eighth grade graduation. Will be a late night for me.

Aw, I hope you feel much better soon =( Congrats on your granddaughter's 8th graduation =)

Caylyn, hope you are doing better. Lung issues are no fun. Just deal with asthma. Graduation 4hours drive to and from, 35minutes ceremony. But at least I was there. She was happy.

Heheh Calyn, you will probably start getting bored beyond 100 at some point ;)
14 May 14 by member: euheide
@Calyn - It's always very difficult for me to determine appropriate recovery time heheh. So far, after all this time, I still feel clueless because, sometimes, a given number of time will work great while, other times, that same time seems almost definitely too few. That sometimes gets in the way of my progress heheheh
