Just a note about weight. I work out nearly every other day, I hike at least once or twice a month for at least 3 hours. I'm gaining muscle, which weighs more than fat...sooooo...my weight is going up, my arms, legs and chest are getting bigger.

In my opinion...and I say this with all the respect in my heart, dieting sucks ass, because even if you lose weight - your not actually becoming healthier and stronger. You can lose 50 lbs just by starving yourself or eating vegetables for nearly every meal, however that will make you into a wimpy vegan with no muscle mass. In fact your body will start to consume it's own muscle tissue just to get some protein. You might think you are healthier, but just try running a marathon or working out.

My suggestion. Throw away your scale and get a tailors measuring tape. Stop doing situps, they only make your gut bigger as the muscles push your fat out even more.

First thing you do is run 30 minutes a day. Work your way up to running 5km (3.13 miles) in 30 minutes or less. Do that for at least 6 months. You should lose about 1 lb a week - but also gain muscle, meaning that you will neither lose weight nor gain weight (although you might fluctuate up and down by sometimes as much as 10 lbs).

Next thing is - reduce use of salt & sugar in your diet. Make sure you eat protein mixed with vegetables and stay away from starches like rice, pasta, bread, and other complex carbohydrates.

Never eat fried foods. Eliminate meat, but if you have to, eat chicken or fresh wild fish (not farm fish), preferably a deep sea fish.

Don't eat condiments, like ketchup, mayonnaise, or other crap. Don't use salad dressing, simply add vinegar and olive oil.

Install a TV in your exercise room. This will allow you to exercise while watching your favourite shows. Get an MP3 player. This is a must for when you want to run everyday.

Start slow, but be consistent. Don't purchase gadgets. Running is all you need to begin losing weight. If you have to, buy some comfy running shoes, tops, and shorts/pants. Try to run at the same time everyday. Ideally running in the morning before breakfast is the best, however, I personally have trouble getting up early, so I run at night.

Don't give up. It will take at least 6 months before you start to see the results. You can really help yourself by joining an "weight watchers" program. They will educate you on what is unhealthy eating habits.

Remove all junk food from your house. Just pack it up and put it in the garbage can. Always substitute something for something else (eg. if you like sweets - then buy some fruit that is sweet rather than chocolate or cookies).

Never eat at a drive through. Most places that offer drive throughs offer junk food combos that are way too large (eg. large fries & drink combos).

Stop drinking real coke. If you have to drink coke then drink coke zero or diet coke. Try to substitute your fizzy beverage with something that is better for you, like fizzy flavoured water with zero calories, or green tea.

Well...that's it for now.

Take care,

:)
