mardee57's Journal, 21 March 2014

So I'm 2.5 pounds from my goal weight and I still don't look the way I was hoping... My original goal weight was 145 and when I met that goal I looked in the mirror and thought hummm I want to have a better figure... Vanity? Ah yea! I didn't lose this last 118 pounds to not look my very best. So at 137 pounds I looked in the mirror and decided I had not yet arrived... So my new goal, look good or not, is 127 pounds for my 5'6" medium frame. 10 more pounds and I will truly have met my personal expectation and healthy/ideal weight. According to Rush University http://www.rush.edu/rumc/page-1108048103230.html I should weigh between 117 and 143 so that will put me pretty much in the middle. Plus I like the number 127!! I am starting vacation this afternoon so the challenges with food are going to be something I will need to be mindful of but I have confidence that I will stay the course... Love and blessings to all...

I am proud of you for meeting your goals and I wish you all the best for the rest of them. My only thought is, make yourself happy with you not what a website suggests. Keep up the great work.

Great job on the weight loss!! Losing weight only makes you a smaller version of yourself. If you want to change your body composition, you have to focus on fat loss and exercise (combo of strength training and cardio). The older you get the harder you got to work, lol! Sad to say!

Thanks ladies... I walk 5 miles a day and love myself tremendously. I weighed 345 pounds when I started this journey originally so I am glad to know that not only am I a smaller version of my wonderful self I am also healthy and fit. Where I use to be on BP Meds and Cholesterol Meds I am now drug free and just passed a physical with flying colors!! It's exciting that all the hard work of not only eating right but exercising and loving God has paid off gloriously. I think the thing to remember is that this is a lifelong commitment to a complete lifestyle change. It takes hard work, tenacity, and dedication to the endeavor of not only being healthy but staying healthy...

Mardee that is so amazing! I am so proud of you and you are an inspiration! I hope I can do it too! I didn't know you walk 5 miles a day! Wow! Have a great vacation! You can make it to your ultimate goal; you've come so far!

Thanks Tulip! You are so close!! You can do it too! Walking is the lowest impact on this old gals body... It clears my head and relieves stress... It's more like 3-5 miles depending on the weather... More during the summer and better weather days... Thanks for your well wishes on my vacation... I am soo excited, 10 days in Mexico with my daughter!

Wow! This really motivates me to make this work! How long has it taken you? I'm excited to hear of your success, and seeing how far you've come, I know you can make it to your new goal! Great job!

Double wow. How awesome! How long did it take you to get to where you are? What diet are you following? Do you exercise? BE CAREFUL on Vacation! I went on vacation and ditched my routine and gained 5 lbs, I've lost those already, but it added more time to reach my goal. Please write me if you can!

At 137 pounds, it's likely more a matter of toning through exercise than losing more pounds. And CONGRATULATIONS on losing all that weight. I'm the same height of 5' 6" & I'm right behind you at 149 & feeling the same way about not feeling like I'm there yet. But honestly, I have weight betwen 132 to 136 for my entire adult life until I had 2 children (2 C-sections). I haven't weighed 127 since I was a freshman in high school!! even when I was into body building & dancing 3-5 hours a night for 5 nights a week! So don't be too rough on yourself about the # of the scale. Good luck with your final goal. I'm SUPER impressed with how far you have already come!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments! I exercise virtually everyday... I walk at least 2 miles no matter what but typically 3-5 miles a day. I am 57 years old and I'm 5'6" at 137. The 127 number is the middle of the range of what I should weigh. I am looking forward to being at my ideal weight after the years it has taken me to get there. On July 15th 2011 I weighed 225 lbs so from then to now I have gained and lost weight but am down 88 pounds in 2 year and 8 months. Mardee57 I bet you look very cute. One thing I have notice is when I dropped 35 lbs which a drop in your bucket I kept seeing myself as the person before I lost the weight. There is something about the brain that holds on to stuff even thou it has changed pysically. So stay the course and enjoy the new you. I sure you are turning heads and don't even know it. :-)

Mardee, thank you for the link to the healthy/ideal weight table.

Way to go!!! What an awesome feat :D Being a smaller version of my bigger self is one thing I work hard at NOT having to deal with once I reach my ideal weight of 120 for my 5'2" frame. I especially like what letsDropThesePounds said to you"our brain holds on to stuff" & since that is the case,I take pictures of me along the way of losing weight & compare where I was to how I am at present. Sometimes we have difficulty accepting what we really look like even if we are looking better. :D

It's funny. I'm 5'5" and when I weighed 146, I looked amazing - ribs and hip bones showing, muscular arms and legs. All body types are different. Good luck getting the look you want.

Mardee, how is your vacation going? What did you do on your birthday?
31 Mar 14 by member: Deb_N
Dont be so focused on the number. Are you doing weight training? That will have a huge impact on your figure.
