mrsmole's Journal, 13 February 2014

Bought some prunes yesterday to shake things up a little bit. All I will say is, ahhhhhhh. Feeling much better. And a little lighter. How about that.

My trick this week to getting my greens without the calories is to buy the fat-free Italian dressing with 15 calories per Tablespoon and swap it out for what comes with the dressing that comes with the Ready Pac Bistro salads from my grocery store. I'm too busy and too lazy to make my own salads, so this forces me to have them before they expire. I toss the dressing, subtract the dressing calories (printed on the label) and I get my greens without the dressing calories. Ta-da!

It's funny that since giving up refined sugar 143 days ago, I don't miss cookies or chocolate. I miss blue cheese dressing with giant chunks of blue cheese. Salads were the most dangerous food in the world for me - salads were little more than a "dressing delivery system". LOL. So going for this watered down diet dressing is a leap that many of you may not fully appreciate without this back story.

Like for me saying I gave up drinking is sort of a joke. I used to have maybe 3 drinks a month. Maybe. If I remembered to buy Smirnoff Ice at the store. A six pack would sit in the fridge for two months. So everyone has their vices. And for me, it was sauces, dressing, butter. Not booze. I mean, I liked it, I just didn't love it.

When people say, "How are you losing this weight?" I say, "Well, I've given up caffeine, refined sugar, alcohol, cookies, candy, butter, sauces, pretty much everything." I like to let them know it's extreme. Then their smile turns a little frozen and they sort of back away, like they are afraid if they stand too close to me, they may "catch" my diet. ROFL.

I want to smile and say, "Don't worry. I'm not contagious."

Don't they sell Bolthouse Farms products in CA? I use Chunky Blue Cheese Yogurt at 35 cals per 2 tablespoons, 205 grams fat, 1 carb. And the best part is - it tastes delicious!!!

And I love Whole Foods Health Starts Here avocado vinaigrette dressing -- 25 calories for 2tbsp. I'm on day 44 added sugar free... But who's counting! I do allow myself very dark chocolate though (85% or higher). I also eat gluten, lactose & caffeine free. It took me awhile but I realized these just didn't agree with me, and I feel so much better without them. My allergies, acid reflux & night sweats are much better too. 143 days -- that's awesome! So glad to be on this journey with you, my new friend, one day at a time! Xoxox

Ha! Salad dressing delivery system. :) Love that. So many people thing they're 'eating healthy' because they're having a salad, and then slather it in fat and sugar dressings. Congrats on your recent 'move'?

And... you gave up caffeine? Is that even legal? I would die without my 2 quad shots of espresso a day. *jitter, jitter*

Ha ha ... love the dressing delivery statement and I TOTALLY understand that one ... giving up my full fat ranch and delicious blue cheese is painful ... I been doing oil and vinegar lately because I just dont like the taste of the fat free dressings ... But every better choice we make is one step forward ...

Oh my - I just noticed a huge typo in my previous comment. The Yogurt dressing only contains 2.5 grams of fat - NOT 205 grams!

Have you tried drinking your greens? I made a delicious smoothie thing morning that consisted of a banana, almond milk, oatmeal, spinach, mango, and berries. I usually dump two or three handfuls of greens in my smoothies and don't even taste them. I've also tried kale, but that you can taste...it's not bad, but you can taste it.

LOL! I get what you mean. When they notice you losing weight and suddenly realize that they wanna lose weight too, they'll ask what your secret is. When you tell them all about your diet, they (sometimes literally) take a step back and say "wow!" with an almost scared look on their faces.
