I live! My surgery went well. There was a problem with a bleeder, I had to have a CT to try to locate it, since my hemoglobin was low. Showed nothing. The hospital actually had good healthy food choices (nice menu), so that was nice. They kept pumping fluids in me, and I had to call a nurse every time I had to go potty; not too much sleep.

My blood levels stayed low, so they gave me two units of blood. Did a painful ultrasound of my leg to check for clots, then sent me home. I was so glad to get into my comfy home hospital bed! Beau did not want to share, lol. I pushed him off my legs a couple times before I got to sleep. I woke up 6 hours later and couldn't move my leg!

Beau was sleeping on top of my knee, which was covered by an ice pack, blanket, and comforter. I pushed him off, took off the ice pack, grabbed my walker, and easily made it to the bathroom in time. I had worn a Tena pad just in case, but it wasn't necessary.

Tomorrow is my third physical therapy appointment. At one week after surgery, I was able to climb a long flight of stairs up, down, and up again. I'm doing well, though I'm having more pain than I like. Guess I worked too hard & tried to cut back on my pain meds too quickly. I'm taking it a little easier, though I am able to go upstairs and shower, hooray! A shower sure is great after a week of sponge baths.

My partner has taken excellent care of me.:o) we even stopped & got me a latte before physical therapy. Oops, dinner is about to be served.

So glad to read the surgery went well and please take it easy on yourself. I know I have a tendency to do that 'oh, I don't need pain relief, I can walk it off' and then later wonder why I have a need to do things 'the hard way'. We aren't spring chickens anymore - our bodies deserve a longer recuperation. I'd have been insane not showering daily - so I can imagine I would have toughed the stairs for that. Heal my friend.

I am so happy to hear from you! Thanks for taking the time to let us you know survived :) Sounds like you are doing very, very well, even though you have pain. Glad your partner is taking excellent care of you and happy that the hospital food was so good. Again thanks for checking in, you've been on my mind.

I promise I'll take the time to heal properly. :o) Today my physical therapist told me that pain is to be expected, but to back off before it brings me to tears. I'm to rest after 10 minutes on my feet, do new stretches, as well as modified new exercises and stretches. She has a doctorate in physical therapy, and is wonderful at explaining how my body is healing and what I need to do for the best results. She also was able to massage some of the swelling and bruising of my leg. Bella, I swear I almost sneaked upstairs to shower after 3 days (minimum healing time before I could shower), but my partner would have had a fit; wanted my physical therapist to clear me for stair climbing, first. My therapist understood, and sent me home with a crutch to make it easier to climb stairs & get around in the house ;oD

Relieved for you that they didn't find a clot. Happy you are home and finally able to shower. I remember how good that felt after hospitalizations. As others have said, definitely need to take the pain meds and not overdo it.
