We're supposed to get major ice and snow starting tonight. Our power always goes out when that happens, so I need to think about good foods we can eat that won't require cooking. Nuts, fruit, tomatoes, avocado, canned tuna, sardines, whole wheat pita bread, some cheeses. That should be enough for a few days. We have a small camp stove for heating up soup. It kills me that we have a gas stove, but the darn thing won't work without electricity because it has an electric starter with a safety switch. Also can't burn wood in our fireplace because it won't work without our electric exhaust fan. That's just nuts!

4:50pm The sleet started an hour ago while walking Bubs. It was coming down hard and stinging my face. Ever since I got back in the house, I've been nibbling on snacks. I need to get a grip.

10:45pm We still have power, but the snow and sleet have been falling constantly since this afternoon. It's just a matter of time before it goes. I am still compulsively grazing on snacks. Maybe it's an instinctive thing prior to hibernation.

Snow cones..!!!!! Sorry coco I couldn't resist. Your menu sounds about right, I can't think of anything else except for Instant oatmeal if you like oatmeal. Major ice and snow coming sounds ominous especially when you say you cannot burn wood in the fireplace. My girlfriend told me about those pellet and wood burning stoves that require electricity and I do think it is counterproductive and nuts when the electricity is out. I have an old wood burning stove and have always been thankful for it especially since I have a 1942 floor heater that could break down at anytime but so far so good. Please stay safe and warm coco. Thanks, Lisa! Mmmm... snow cones. With a splash of vanilla extract and some peppermint syrup -- might be pretty tasty!

Coco, hope you still have power this time even with snow. Sounds like you're well prepared. Not sure how you can have hot water though.. Stay warm and let us know how you're doing..
