I survived! And I'm overly proud of myself ;) Today I completed my first ever 5k, and I don't think I did too shabby considering there was no 'training' done beforehand. According to Google Maps, I jogged 1.6 of the 3.15 miles! After that my feet and Achilles tendon started to hurt, so I dropped to a moderately paced walk. I managed to push myself a little further, jogging here and there until I couldn't bear the pain anymore.

Totally worth it. I ended up going by myself because the coworker I signed up with ended up coming down with strep (it was better she didn't go, considering it rained the entire time and would've only aggravated her symptoms). But I still had a blast. I never thought I'd be one to like jogging/running (can't stand the treadmill, but I suppose that's a bit of a different beast).

Honestly, if you've never done a 5k and are looking for a way to start, I cannot recommend the Color Run highly enough. Their slogan is "the world's happiest 5k" and they live up to it. Everyone was super friendly, the music was great (then again, I like trance and techno and dance club mixes), and everyone was just there to have a good time. No one was concerned about being faster than anyone else or setting records (there were a lot of families w/ kids in strollers).

I was up at 5:45, made it to the parking lot by 6:20 where I scarfed down the turkey sandwich and almonds/energy shot I'd brought with. Oh, did I mentioned that it RAINED the entire time? Right. So, 7:15-ish they start a warm-up round of Zumba that lasted roughly 45 minutes to an hour.

...did I mention that my socks were soaked by this point? xD

By 8:45 the race had started, and by 10:25 I hobbled back to my car, coated in color, pleased as punch with myself, and grinning from ear-to-ear despite the foot pain.

And it only took three hours in the bath to get MOST of the color off my skin xD (I've still got traces of blue, some of it on spots that had been covered by clothes!).
