crabby Kat's Journal, 08 August 2013

Wow, I've been away from my journal & all of you for a long time! How hard can it be to sit down with a computer for a while & journal, or tap something out on my Kindle? Well, I guess it was for me, doggone it.

My birthday (51, but who's counting) brought on a lot of unrestrained eating. My inner wisdom kept me from getting too carried away, but I had to work out a lot to keep from gaining more than I did. I've taken off a few of my "birthday" pounds already, blush.

My foot has been healing nicely, so I was able to up my exercising (with restraint), which was awesome. I got back to 4 Zumba classes a week, as well as two days with BodyPump & CXWORX.

Tuesday I was doing a move in the core strengthening class, think it's called a wood-cutter, a side to side lunge thing with a exercise tube under one foot, grasped in both hands, that you hold straight out & use your abs to pull it to the left as you lunge to the left, etc.

Well, my form was a little off, the tube pulled my bad foot so that it wrenched sideways; now I have a strain in another part of the bottom of my foot. It irritates a nerve, which in turn sends nerve pain and muscle tightness up my leg. Phooey!

I'm taking a day off to let it rest and heal. My physical therapist was able to fit me in yesterday & is cautiously optimistic that it will heal fairly quickly if I'm careful.
I went to Zumba yesterday before physical therapy, and it wasn't easy, hurt like Hades. This is me being careful, lol. Must improve my careful....

I woke up wanting to go to class, but made myself stay in bed, then shower after it was too late to go. I've done laundry, dishes, etc. I ate a light breakfast.

I'm baking poppyseed rolls, or trying too. My rolls don't turn out very well, hoping this time they will. They're whole wheat & oats, lemon peel, poppyseeds, not sweet; a bread recipe that I mixed & raised in my bread machine & am now going to bake after they've risen for an hour. They've risen better than my previous attempts, we'll see. :o)

My partner was in an accident last week; I got a call through OnStar who connected me. I almost didn't pick up that strange call from Texas... I was calm, though my partner was fuzzy-headed and trapped in the car. An SUV ran a red light & T-boned drivers side of the car.

I found out which hospital to go to, tried to stay calm, had to stop to fill my gas tank, then stay focused and not panic through the rush-hour traffic. Almost an hour later I faced down the ER gatekeeper (receptionist) and was allowed to go back to be with my partner.

Not a good thing, to see the one you love on a back-board with one of those neck immobilizer-cage thingies on a gurney in an emergency room waiting room. Schooled my face to just show love, a little fear bled through. I talked calmly, reassuringly, listened to repeated story of what happened, tracked down a nurse for crackers & water for my partner who's stomach was upset. I teased, took a picture, held hands, kissed, sat with my partner until they came to take to X-ray.

Finally, finally, they took off the cage, carefully rolled off backboard, examined everything. X-rays showed no significant damage; left with "chest wall strain, thoracic pain, and hip contusion". More bruises showed up, including a whopped on left pinky from burst blood vessel. Car was towed.

The next morning my partner had me drive to rent a car; had to go to work, & wanted me to have my car for my stuff. Amazing person. Still having trouble with headaches & fuzzy-headedness, back pain, etc. See's primary care doctor tomorrow. Finally had car towed to repair place; big headache with insurance & police not filing report in a timely manner. Partner is not happy with little Ford Fiesta rental, misses Subaru. Loves Subaru, which protected body, and OnStar, for being there before the car came to a stop. The officer, the paramedics, ambulance crew; all wonderful. Life is good! Whew!

Well, my rolls look better than my prior attempts, but got too dark on the bottom. Must do taste test....Okay, YUM! I'd better enter the recipe in my cookbook. :o)

Welcome back my little Zumba Queen. I agree journaling from a Kindle is maddening but know you were missed. OMG about your partner! I can understand why you wouldn't answer the out of state call - glad you did! Ugh.. I can understand her frustration at the rental; will you be able to get the Subaru repaired? And.. was SUV insured? (hope I hope I hope) Enjoy the rolls and try not to stay away so long!

Hiya, Bella! Super insurance on everything, so no worries there. Ha, you know, I was embarrassed to come back with a weight gain, isn't that silly? That's the perfect time to get myself back to FS! Is there a challenge for people who are obsessive about diet/exercise? I need to find a balance. I need to learn that I won't be wearing a size 24W again just because I can't go to the gym for a few days. I've been under my goal weight for a whole lot of months, but I'm still adjusting to this being ME, if you know what I mean. I'm planning on making the Chicken Parmesan Florentine for dinner tonight for the first time. Should I serve it with broccoli, or Mexican squash, or what? As well as one of my poppy seed rolls, of course. :o)

Glad you are back, missed you. OMG about your partner and the car accident. You did amazing, don't know if I could have been so calm. Kudos to you, Zumba Queen. But you have to find a balance about exercise, you really do, you are just obsessed aren't you - lol. Hope that partner's car gets fixed soon, that Onstar was a good thing. So much info in one journal, hard to take it all in :) and you didn't gain that much, a couple of pounds only - oh happy belated 51st birthday. Hope the rolls tasted good even if a little darker than you thought. Happy to have you back home on FS

LOL... is it wrong to say "both"? (Broccoli & squash - they both sound good). I'm sure if there isn't a challenge you could make one. :-)
