SaintViper's Journal, 29 November 2010

Had a second Thanksgiving yesterday and did pretty well. Out to dinner Saturday night and did ok, not great. Weight is up but I think it's just a typical blip. Should come down again this week. Under 200 (to stay) by Christmas!

Being off of work is tough. Not enough to do and too much food to eat. Lot's of time off coming up. Will have to figure out a way to keep busy.

Gained some weight lately, but the scale doesn't show any increase in body fat. I'm hoping I used to some of the extra calories to build some muscle. Had an awesome swim workout today. The fast guy from a few weeks ago was there and I had no problem keeping up with him. I don't mean to be overly competitive, but it is nice to have something/someone to use to measure progress with.

Am starting to understand the Curves thing I think. I went to the local Y and worked out in the exercise machine room on Saturday. It was filled with old guys wearing jeans, t-shirts, and work boots. Also a woman with about 4 layers of clothing/sweats on. From what I could tell, even with all of that clothing on, nobody else in the room was working hard enough to break a sweat. I did the elliptical for 40 minutes. Got my heart rate over 150 and worked up a good sweat by the time I was done. I suppose any exercise is better than sitting on the couch, but to me it hardly seemed worth it for them. On the other hand, the idea of not having to change clothes while I'm at the gym or after I'm done seems appealing. I could totally bypass the locker room. Would save a lot of time.

Curves is great, especially because so many women are intimidated my resistance training even though it's the most beneficial form of exercise. Cardio has it's place, but women will totally over do the cardio and not even think about weights. The funny thing is now I work up a better sweat lifting weights than I do in my Zumba class. Those 4 lbs will be gone before you know it. Keep up the good work SV! Glad to hear you had a good Turkey Weekend!

OH MY LORD!!! It was attack of the LOL (little old ladies) today at Curves. There was at least 6 of them all clustered together just blathering on for EVER and clogging the circuit up. And they had that funny little old lady smell going. You know, too little bathing, too much perfume and hairspray. GACK!!! I try to be polite and just smile and move quietly around them but geez!!! I must have been clenching my jaw since the owner came over later and asked if I was "ok?" today. Hmmmmmmm, yes, I think so. I just lamed it off about getting over a cold and a busy weekend blah blah blah. Sometimes these GIANT flocks of starlings land outside my office windown and it's just maddening....I kind of felt the same way at the gym today.

Ooh SV see that 3.2 lb drop. AWESOME! I think you are going to be hitting you year end goal by week's end and then some.

Well, I've hit it twice already. The trick seems to be going under by enough to stay there. It was nice to see the numbers come down though. I don't know where they went, but it was nice to see them go.
