cocobutt's Journal, 01 November 2010

I was surprised that my Halloween weekend sinnin' didn't show up on the scales this morning. On the positive side, I did not eat one piece of candy out of the treat bowl. I remember having the fleeting desire for a Kit Kat or mini-M&M's, but I told myself that bowl was off-limits PERIOD. I decided every piece (and I bet we had 15 pounds of treats) would be given away, and that was easy because our neighborhood turns into a carnival with people from all over the city driving here to TOT.

On the down side, I drank a half-bottle of wine when our company came over. But it was a fabulous organic white from Preston Winery in Sonoma. The weird thing is, I didn't have even a hint of hangover. Don't know if it's because the wine was of such high quality or maybe my liver is working better.

On the up side, I worked hard all day, cleaning and prepping for our company, so I worked up a good sweat and didn't have time to eat much early in the day.

On the down side, by the time our company got here, I was ravenous. I ate many small pieces of cheese, 3 or 4 crackers (which I pretty much had given up (up to this point), and only 1 average bowl of chili, BUT I ate two pieces of pumpkin pie. Mr Coco makes the best pie on earth. I know I should not have eaten one, much less two pieces. But if I put this in perspective, last year I would've eaten half a pie by noon today. So, I can see an improvement. But still, why couldn't I apply my Treat Bowl Rules to the pie? I should've told myself over and over, Just One Piece.

This was almost like a practice run for the dieting horror that will be Thanksgiving. I just need to eat smart on the non-holidays that comprise the majority of our calendar and forgive myself for these few holiday lapses.

One day of splurging shouldn't kill you, but it's definitely good practice for Thanksgiving

That's not sinning that is winning just as long as it doesn't become habitual...To savor a piece or two of Mr.Coco's pumpking pie and some spirit on Halloween of organic white wine with good company sounds like living to me! Cheers, click, click, TOWANDA!!!!!!
