Been a challenging week. My brother who is a year older than me passed away suddenly just over a week ago. He had diabetes for 10 or more years. He had been taking a medication for it but when it was linked to a higher risk of heart problems he went off it without going on something else. He was trying hard to manage it with diet, but apparently did not succeed in that effort. He was found slumped over and not breathing by his wife. He had apparently be dead for a few hours when she found him. I am mad at him for not working with a doctor. I understand his frustration with doctors, but there was an arrogance to his actions that ended up with him losing his life. His 14 y.o. daughter now does not have a dad.

School is at the very end of the term. I have a paper due tomorrow that I got an extension on. My review boards happened on Tuesday. It was tough, given everything else going on, but I did not want to forego them. I can't believe how fast this year went by.

My brother's experiences have reinforced my resolve to continue on this path of eating high quality, unprocessed food. Getting rid of carbs other than veggies, and the occasional fruit. And, working with my doctors as needed. My changes in diet have had a profound effect on my health and well-being, but I have a few meds I need to take, and will need to take for the rest of my life. So be it. I am not ready to call it a life.

Be well. Eat well. Hug the ones you love.

I am so sorry about your brother. Frustrating and heart breaking knowing that it could have been prevented had he decided to work with a doctor. Prayers and condolences to you and your family. I agree with the benefits of eating high quality unprocessed food. I think it is the healthiest way to go! Good luck with the end of term!!!

I'm so very sorry to hear about your brother. All we can do is work with the medical advice we have, question and seek other input when we feel our medical professionals may be missing something and work to change our own health. So many are now saying, "Food is medicine." It sounds like you are on the right track. You and your family will be in my prayers. Hang in there.

yduj57 that is just heartbreaking. I am so sorry for your and your family's loss. I'm glad your healthy eating plan is still working for you and yes, that school year went fast. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you all for the supportive and kind words. I am finishing up at school. One last paper to still complete. Almost there. My niece and sister-in-law are struggling, but moving forward as best as they are able right now. And my commitment to eating for my health and my well-being is as deep as ever.
