SergeantS's Journal, 24 February 2013

I have come to a decision! As good as the Dukan was for getting over my November/December plateau I've now realised it's just not for me. My body doesn't seem to respond too well, I haven't been 100% healthy ever since starting it on New Year's Day and I've decided to go back to my previous diet of eating clean and weight training which worked pretty well for me last year. I have to say, the Dukan is good and has been amazing for
others that I know but there's something about it that just didn't work for my body :( please do excuse the brutal truth but I have been following it to a T and no matter how many veggies I eat on veg days I'm still mostly constipated, it seems to have affected my immune system as well, it may just be coincidence but I've contracted the flu twice in 2 months and I was unlucky if I got it once a year before this one! It also affected my TOTM which wasn't ideal for me. All in all, the weight loss was okay, it's going down rather than up so I can't really complain. I'm just so bummed to be letting it go now as I didn't want to be another Dukan failure! I really thought I could do it and am not looking forward to the "I told you so" from family and friends. But onwards and upwards. It has taught me a lot about nutrition and the huge part protein pays in a good diet, it has taught me to be more in tune with my body and to listen to it instead of feeding it whenever I feel like it- there's only so much chicken I can eat! I now always take the stairs instead of the elevator, that will stick with me! I walk a lot more and I have discovered oatbran which I surprisingly really like! It's perfect for those like me who don't like to eat breakfast normally. I just need more veg and fruit and nuts in my diet, I don't really ever eat complex carbs anyway but I have missed my cashews and plum snacks! And having the energy to do a strenuous weight lifting session like I'm used to, I haven't been able to give it my all these last few weeks probably because I haven't been very well :( Goodbye Dukan, you have taught me a lot about myself and my relationship with food and exercise and I really can't complain about that, but it's time for me to move on and go back to what my body responded to before, and hopefully I will reach my goal of 125lbs by June 14th 2013 :) onwards and downwards!

I am so happy to hear you are going back to clean eating and weights! I think in no time your body will really feel the difference again. :) If you ever want someone to visit with about it I am here.

Good luck!!! You have to find something that works for you. Honestly when I was your age I could bring my weight back down simply by upping my exercise. Get a healthy relationship with food and exercise and you will be happier and healthier. I used Dukan to get the last 15 lbs off and Cruise worked beautifully.....and now I will work on maintaining...i've always been good at maintaining. Exercise is key for me as I now enjoy all the foods I want and I will stay away from the trigger foods that send me down the wrong path. I should change my diet type as well as it is not really "dukan" anymore.

Thank you ladies! I already feel tonnes better, I've put on 3lbs but that normally happens when I start serious weight training and it all comes off after a few days, once the muscle soreness goes! It's amazing how much difference it actually makes to be 'allowed' vegetables on any day, I'm mostly still eating protein but throwing the veggies in really makes a difference for me. I don't really eat fruit/cheese or anything like that so I can do without them and I barely eat carbs apart from oatbran in the morning and a potato here and there...still very much Dukan but without the restrictions! Started the 30 day shred today so hopefully I will see some changes this month, I lost around 4lbs in the whole of February, not good! Thank you for all of your help and support, you've been stars!
