madaboutmoose's Journal, 10 July 2010

Saturday and it is almost noon. I was up earlier but got to doing 'this' and 'that' and just now have logged on here. I went a little crazy last night with two bottles of Mike's Hard Limeade and then remembered I had 40 spice hummus in the fridge and Stacey's Pita Chips in the cupboard. I guesstimated how much I ate on my food journal because I did not weigh or measure it!! Most likely I exceeded my RDI. However, weight was steady this morning and I really enjoyed the snack.

We watched Edge of Darkness last night. Well done movie I thought. Not for those who are offended by violence and blood though. Mel Gibson may make a mess out of his 'real' life but he really is quite an actor.

I am in the midst of laundry and sprucing up my toenails. Bob is in town, helping with security for a veterans event in town today. One of our good friends is a vet and an active supporter of events that benefit veterans. Mom ran to town to run a few errands and stop by Coldwater Creek to see if she can find a pair of white pants. She is officially on VACATION and will be heading towards Seattle for a week for the National Miniature Convention. She is quite excited. I so enjoy seeing her enjoy her life. So much of her life has been focused on sacrificing for others ... it is wonderful that she is doing things SHE likes!!!

Later, this evening we'll meet up with some friends and kick up our heels a bit. I hope Bob isn't too tired after his day with the veterans!!

Our warm weather continues ... and it finally feels like summer.

Just realized I am HUNGRY!!! Perhaps that protein bar this morning wasn't enough??? Actually, it is close to when I typically eat lunch and I did spend 40 minutes on the elliptical so I guess it makes sense I would be hungry. LOL!!

1. I am grateful for time alone at home ... even if it is doing laundry!!

2. I am grateful for my mother's good health at 70 years of age and that she has friends and activities she enjoys.

3. I am grateful for Blue not pulling me off of my feet when he saw a Doe trot across the driveway on our walk this morning!!

4. I am grateful for good friends.

5. I am grateful for today.

All is well. I have much to be thankful for ... just always need to remember to focus on those things rather than the frustrations, disappointments, unmet expectations, and irritations in my life. While my weight is higher than I would like it to be ... yesterday when I tried on clothing I easily fit into size 12 pants so I really do not think I need to worry too much. I do need to remain vigilant. I have come too far in this journey to permit myself to slip back into denial and hurt myself by not paying attention to what I put into my body. As far as moving the scale lower. I still am not convinced that it is completely up to me. Well of course it is ... I could cut back calories, increase exercise, D I E T. Whether or not my body would stay at a lower weight? Who knows! For today, I will simply live ... I will enjoy my life which also means I pay attention to what I eat and make sure I move my body daily in a positive way. My health is more than a number on the scale. It is not that the number is meaningless ... it is NOT meaningless. It just doesn't define me. I still battle with this ... but that is okay. I have so many wonderful buddies here to support me in this journey that eventually I will find some balance with weighing myself ... it isn't all or nothing ... it is an important tool.

Yes, it is the weekend. Moose just talks and talks and talks and talks and talks and talks!!! Mostly to myself you realize!! Time to get back to the tasks of the day. Have a good one my friends. And of course ... join me in practicing kindness towards ourselves. We are ALL worth it!!!

Keep talking Moose! I love reading and as usual your journal was quite informative. I'm sure that the chips and hummus didn't hurt you and the Mike lime sounds good. I haven't tried that one yet. Just came back home for a while to decide how Ashley and I will spend the rest of the day. We were thinking about a bike ride but it's a bit hot for that right now so we are side by side on our laptops. lol Take care and enjoy your day. Thanks for the movie review.

Good to hear that all is well with you. I found an awesome falafel place that just opened up near me, but to tell the truth, I like the pre-packaged hummus that you ate better than their fresh hummus! Have a great time tonight!!! PS - Miniture what??

I was wondering the same thing.

Mom makes miniature room boxes and displays. She belongs to a club of ladies who do the same. I added a link in the journal entry if you are curious!

I think the number on the scale is like the number on our paycheck: we're programmed to think "good" or "bad" depending on where that number falls. My feeling is that the essential part about measuring is what we do with the information after we get it - keep up the good work and it sounds like things are leveling out in your life too!

Oh Man! I love those pita chips. I almost bought some yesterday as a "family snack" but I talked myself out of it. I knew I'd eat most of the bag. Plus they were over $3 in that particular store. We all love your talking so talk as much as you like. Hope you have a wonderful relaxing Sunday in your Idaho woods. Someday you'll have a post some pics of your mom's work.

I am assuming BLUE is a dog? what kind? Hope you got all of the laundry done!1 gonna start mine now!!

Wouldn't it be cool if we lost a pound for every load of laundry we do? It would only count once they were folded and put away nicely lol. I am hanging out at my homefront today to get some stuff done. My goal for the day is to keep moving and to eat only when I feel real hunger. After yesterday's funfest with beer, cake and icecream I am surprised I actually feel some energy today. Have a great Day, TOWANDA!!

Amy, Yes Blue is a dog!! LOL!!! Our 100 lb baby doberman who really thinks he is a lap dog. Laundry got done yesterday ... still some ironing left over but nothing I really "need" ... LOL!!! Lisa ... I think you have a grand idea about 1 lb lost for every load of laundry. That would put me down about 4 lbs a week!!! LOL!!! Let me know if you can figure out how to make THAT happen!!
