Smilesong's Journal, 29 February 2008

Well, I have been at 304.5 for 3 days straight....I've increased the water I was drinking and hope this helps....I'm not hungry in the morning and have been dumping all my AM calories to the afternoon.

I know I need to adjust that back to plan...I've also eaten dinner on average at 9pm everynight this week. But I was somewhat good at dinner last night with friends...only 1 bite of a piece of bread with salad.

This is hard because its like the entire food industry wants us to eat carbs and I find it really hard to dine out....I just go on auto pilot and get my cheeseburger and fries....but so far I've managed to stay away from diners with friends.

It sucks, its hard but I want to win at this....bottom line.
304.5 lb Lost so far: 38.8 lb.    Still to go: 24.5 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

You are doing terrific! 10 pounds in a month is a beautiful beginning to a successful end! I know you can do it!

There are a lot of low carb options when you eat out. You just can't be afraid of ordering it the way you want it. Fast food is easy, just stick to salads (no croutons, low-carb dressing like ranch) or bunless sandwiches. I love bunless burgers. I even make them at home. As for dining out: Chinese--anything stir-fried, Mexican--fajitas or carnitas w/o the tortillas, order a side salad instead of the rice and beans, anywhere else you can get extra veggies instead of the potatoes and ask for no bread. It takes some creativity, but you can do it. Don't be afraid to go out and have fun with friends just because of food choices.

There are always the salad options - at fast food restaurants I get them or a burger without the bun. At Chili's recently I had a big salad without the taco chip slices. (Carbs) It was awesome. You will plateau on this diet. I have mainly because I wasn't moving because of arthritis - but stick with us and make this a permanent lifestyle change and you to will see the weight scale in the months ahead in places you only dreamed it were now. And then you'll be so happy but still want it lower! But for me I know the sixty pounds I've nearly taken off is no way coming back so Atkins is a lifestyle change for me in the long-term. Good luck and even if you only lose 2 pounds a week that's 104 pounds in a year. Or one pound a week is 52 pounds - and slow and steady wins the race and you'll get there as will the rest of us eventually!!! :)

Glenn is right, slow and steady is better than down and up. Stay on the plan and you WILL reach your goal.

I think that when you are on Atkins you have so many more choices when eating out than on any other plan. You just have to be careful of sauces and dressings. Most restaurants have a grilled chicken with veggies or some other similar dish. Knowing what you can have on the plan allows you to ask that bad items be removed from dishes (potatoes, chips, fries, etc). You are paying for the meal so don't be afraid to ask for it to be altered. You're doing great so far, keep up the good work!
