icemom's Journal, 01 April 2015

Ok, I have been really bad for the past 2.5 weeks eating a ton of carbs and anything I wanted to eat. Binge eating, seems like. Ugh, now weighing in today, but I know that I gained at least 8lbs back. Starting today, April 1st my goal is to get back on track. Been good so far today, it is usually at night when I eat whatever I want. I need to break the cycle. Any suggestions?????

I don't eat after 7... its worked very well for me in the past. I'm trying to do it again. I just started to pay attention and set some goals on Monday. So far so good for me :) Good luck!

Eat lighter during the day and save some of your calories for the evening. I would try protein for the evening to hold you through--fish, peanut butter, a small piece of meat and some veggies. Carbs will burn too fast. Take a little walk around the block, if you can and if it gets really bad--go to bed--LOL LOL LOL. You burn calories while you sleep--LOL.

I used to have that problem for soooo many years. But the ketogenic diet works for me individually. I'm never craving carbs and if some one does there are very good recipes to substitute for carbs using almond and or coconut flour. I'm down 51 lbs eating this way. Finally for me a solution.

Are you getting enough sleep? Maybe you need to go to bed earlier to resist nightly cravings for carbs.

I've recently started taking magnesium and potassium. Potassium for leg cramps and magnesium for a better sleep. I would consider magnesium. Here's a study where they tested magnesiium, melatonin and zinc and found it improved sleep. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21226679/ Maybe you should talk to your doctor about the insomnia but I would try the magnesium because I think our diets are lacking in it. And people who are lowering their carbs often have a lack of potassium. I'm not an expert but I'm trying to figure out my own tossing and turning and right now I'm not bingeing due to eliminating bread, sugar, rice, potatoes, and potato chips. I'm past the withdrawal stage... knock on wood. I"m following a modified Atkins diet.

Change your usual activity at the time you tend to have a food-spree ... taking a walk is healthier, burns calories, gives you endorphins to make you feel better and gets you head away from food ;)
