Yesterday's 2 mile run felt absolutely fantastic! I even managed to climb the long hill at a decent pace managing a 11:35 first mile pace and 11:58 second mile. That time will eventually come down as I get back into the groove of running.

Cycling and running seem to use different muscle groups, so I am almost starting over here. The good thing is that I identified some muscles during my biking days that I am lazy about using while running. I engaged those leg muscles yesterday and discovered that they propelled me forward up and down hills more efficiently.

Today is strength training. I've only got 30 minutes, so maybe I'll try to get in 10 minutes of arms core and legs. I usually neglect the strength training, but this is what I'm missing. I feel that by getting stronger I will be able to break out of a strong jog and into a competitive run. I looked over my pace break down for last year's 13.1 and saw that my pace in mile 3 was 10:00. I want to see 9's this year.

I brought an extra snack today since yesterday left me famished around 4pm. I've got a volunteer committment at 6, and they feed us. I'm hoping for enough vegan options that I don't have to go vegetarian tonight. It's not my cheat day and I want to save that for later in the week.

I'm becoming very interested in the Raw Til 4 lifestyle, but I've got to see if I can stock enough fruits and veggies in my budget. Thank God for the farmer's market, but what is the best way to get out there and back. C'mon tax refund check; Momma needs some money :)

Onward...

Fantastic job there, my running buddy! Something I like to remember is that a 12-minute mile is just as far as a 6-minute mile! Enjoy the process and the speed will come in time. I ran last year's half-marathon at a 9:50 pace (I think?) and this year I'm hoping to see my pace closer to 8:30, but only hard work and time will tell, I suppose. It's easy to get caught up in the numbers and feeling like your pace isn't good enough but even crossing the finish line is something to be so proud of! I like to replay this quote in my head when I run: "Running is not about how far you go, but how far you've come!" Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and you'll get there!

Thank you, everyone! Yes, @Sweeet2th, I'm going to stick with it longer this year and push myself. For the past 6 years I've been afraid to challenge my because of my blood sugar. Something tells me that sticking to veganism is going to empower me to do a lot of great things this year. I can't wait to see what this body wants to do. Alright, I've just had my lentil/spinach soup, so off to strength training I go!
