The Striiv Smart Pedometer has died ignobly on the field of battle, er, fitness. I dropped it in the toilet. At least it was a $30 tracker instead of a $600 phone. I was playing a Farmville-type game on the tracker instead of minding my business, so to speak. :-/

I don't know whether the dunking or the dropping did it in. I have dropped it fairly often as it got dislodged from the belt. The outer shell the clip was on seemed to do a good job of protecting it from impact, but maybe it was one too many. It was made of plastic. I have read user reviews complaining about reliability.

Aww, dropped my phone this week on a treadmill, switching into an armband. IPhone 4 is toast. Sympathize.

Sorry about the iPhone. At least you'll be able to upgrade.

Chris, I tried drying it out on the stove (warm due to the oven pilot light), but the little guy couldn't be revived.

Chris, heat won't do it for plastic items and electronic circuits, I have dropped many phones into my bath water and I used crystal kitty litter to revive them. Take the battery cover off and remove the battery, put the open wet gadget in a bowl that has an airtight cover, pour crystal kitty litter over the electronic item and seal the container for 24 hours. I have two blackberry phones and one android phone that I have used this method on and now 3 years later they still function normally.

I had to get a new phone, no home phone any longer. Went from the gym to at&t. Went home with a lime green 5C. Hurts the budget a bit and a pain setting up a new one.

I'm glad your method doesn't waste food as the rice method does. The Striiv revived after charging overnight. Good, because I really like the daily average steps feature.
