I am STARVING! This has been going on for a couple of days now-- I think it's because I am staying up late working, and I'm burning more calories and I'm hungry. I'm trying really hard not to eat bad stuff- but I'm still eating a lot more calories than I normally would. I hope this stops soon, because I can't imagine that I could possibly lose weight eating like this!

if your super hungry it might mean that your not getting enough nutritional food. if your still super hungry, try eating more vegetable like some bell peppers, carrots, brocolli or other veggies like celery sticks. itll take time for your body to get used to not stuffing itself.

Thanks for caring, lisa9mona. I'm getting plenty of nutrition -- but I am clearly doing something wrong -- and I don't think veggies are going to do the job. This isn't the munchies, and I haven't "stuffed myself" in years. I am seriously hungry as in get me a steak please hungry. In fact -- maybe that's the problem. I haven't had any red meat in weeks, and I've always been someone who will have a sudden craving for beef -- and once I eat it, I'm fine, and I can go back to my regular diet of fish and 40 different kinds of turkey. Think I'll take myself for a burger tomorrow.

Do it, girl! Sometimes this happens to me too. I get on this like 3-day stretch of hunger. Normally, I try my best to ignore it but sometimes I have to do exactly what you're describing with the beef. Not too long ago, this happened, and I ate a 10 oz steak for dinner (normally I eat 5 oz). I stayed within my calories that day and it seemed to nip that problem.

I went for almost 3 weeks feeling pretty good on my lower portion lower calories. Then between week 2 and 3 I was hungry every day and still eating the same. I decided to have some chocolate for dessert. I was only 180 calorie treat and I was satisfied and not hungry after that. I find that every once in awhile veggies just don't do it. I fit the sweet treat in and my body is happy.

may 83 - I have one square of extra dark chocolate almost every single day. It's actually very good for you, and if you eat extra dark (72% or more cacao), you don't have to worry much about carbs. It's mostly good fat. Annie -- I've compromised: I have 3 oz burgers in the freezer, and I took out 2 of them for dinner, because if I go out, since I still can't eat salad without getting sick, I might eat something bad with a burger. Tonight I'll make some of those zucchini cakes to go with my burger, and some of my homemade Szechuan green beans, and I hope I'll be OK. I'm thinking maybe I've been so conscious of getting lots of good fat to try to raise my HDL that I haven't been eating enough dense protein. And I've hesitated to use protein powder because of the artificial sweetener in it--and the sweeteners are apparently a bowel irritant, which obviously I do not need.

That dinner sounds so yummy. All I can think about is food now. Mmmm! Love those zucchini cakes.

Maybe try eating some good filling carbs like legumes and grains if they fit into your plan.

Wholefoodnut -- appreciate the thought. If you look at my diet calendar, you'll see I'm doing plenty of quinoa, oats, and sweet potatoes. Looking at the past couple of weeks, I really do think the problem is that by making room for avocado, pistachios, etc., I lowered my protein count, and I am hungry as a result. I know everyone says that those good fats are very filling and satisfying, but I am not finding that to be the case at all! I'm satisfied for about an hour, and then I'm really hungry again.

I didn't look, sorry. I know for me a salad with out some beans or grains and i'm starving in an hour. If I eat just meat (not often) or fish (about once a week) and veggies without a sweet potato or grain I'm also hungry quickly. For me beans really make a difference.

Looking at your diet calendar, it looks pretty solid. You just have to give your body a chance to adjust. You may want to add some salads in with your lunch and diners along with a big glass of water. You may just be dehydrated.

domb3476 - Thanks for taking a look. I drink a full glass of water with each meal, plus I have been drinking a minimum of 2 large mugs of green tea during the day ever since I read that green tea helps with HDL. Unfortunately, I'm still recovering from the after effects of a food-borne infection I had over the summer, and I am still not able to eat raw salad greens. This week it occurred to me to go to the Middle Eastern deli and get some salads based on cooked veggies. So tonight I had an eggplant ratatouille-like salad with dinner. In a couple of weeks I'll try salad again and see if I can digest it. Meanwhile, I'm sticking with cooked stuff.

You can also do wonderful things with cooked cauliflower such as turning it into rice or mashed potato. I also love spaghetti squash as a pasta substitute.

I know what you mean, HM. I have to have my protein. Like you, I am adding more veggies in and fats but it's hard to reduce my MEAT, but I am trying. We can do this! I would say, the hunger is a signal that your body is changing and you are gonna lose the weight!

domb3476 -- I LOVE cauliflower and broccoli and Brussels sprouts. I make really great roasted cauliflower and cauliflower puree. I had some roasted cauliflower last week when I went out to lunch, along with a Caesar salad. Lunch did not agree with my insides, and I think it was the lettuce but unsure -- cauliflower was also on the 'do not eat' list from the doctor this summer. I ate the leftovers with my dinner last night, and I seem to be OK today, so I am thinking that the lettuce was the problem, and I just need to steer clear of salads for a while!

Spaghetti squash is wonderful! My family loves it and there is so many different things you can do with it.

Same here. I find myself getting really hungry at night. I usually just have a bowl of Total cereal with skim milk while working late. Probably not the best thing to eat, but not the worst and its satisfying.

I've been eating Arrowhead Mills Sprouted Multigrain Flakes with skim milk and berries -- it's actually a very good idea for a snack, a lot of nutrition for the calorie count.

A glass of tomato juice or buttermilk will often tide me over until dinner if I come home from work hungry and on the way to the gym after work I often eat peanut butter sandwich on homemade whole grain bread. Lunch is @ 11 by 4:00 I'm hungry.

Wholefoodnut -- You'll notice I often have a lot of things listed under snacks. I've found in general that I am better off splitting up my calories across the day. I do peanut butter on Dr. Krackers flatbread. It's a great snack! But I'm very careful to measure everything, especially things like peanut butter.
