John10251's Journal, 09 December 2016

I'm a little under goal today and still riding the curve. A buddy mentioned this week that our weight is seldom static, I agree. That's why I think that it is important to log weight and calorie input daily when in maintenance. I have to know what is going on so that I know how to respond... Keep on Tracking!!!

@ Sparrowsquirrel, looking at your picture today makes me believe your weight has not been a problem for awhile. Mine is always in a state of flux...

Especially when a person is starting from a position of being overweight, the numbers on the scale seem so important. While weight is important, there are other aspects of healthy eating and lifestyle that are just as important. Being too focused on what the scale says can lead to short term plans and thinking that may not be in our best interest over the longer term.

When I was very over weight I didn't need to get on the scale nearly as often to see progress. I understand why it is not necessary for all people to weigh in daily or even weekly. When I started to close in on my goal I had to become a bit more disciplined with logging. That's when I joined FS. Now that I'm trying to to keep my weight within a five range, I have little room for error to maintain control. I have seen too many friends rebound after all their hard work...

You are so correct! I also log daily and stay with it the best I can to avoid gaining too much. Right now I am trying to increase muscle mass so the scale is up and down...but I weigh daily to see that I do not go up too much!

Agreed John!! I weigh myself everday and sometimes a few times in a day...I'm interested in seeing how much my weight can change by hydration, dehydration or certain activities. I've gotten very good at predicting my weight before I see the number. I only log weight changes however (up or down) if I see a consistent trend or sustained weight. Not that I'm recommending this method for everyone...it just works better for me. :-)
