Nidoqueen's Journal, 19 March 2018

Ok... I've been here about 2 weeks now and I'm ready to open up and be public. Up until now, I've hidden my diaries and weigh-ins, but I've been so inspired by reading my feed that I want to join the "club" and I hope I can provide inspiration to someone else along the way.

ABOUT ME
I'm 54 years old and I've been overweight the majority of my life. It has been a lifelong struggle and most times, I just haven't bothered with the fight. I've tried to convince myself that I am happy with me, just the way I am, but the fact is, it's not true. I'm depressed, tired, ashamed, and basically sick of being me. I have Asperger's syndrome, heart disease, Type II diabetes, and diverticulitis. Each of these conditions plays a part in what I can and should eat, so choosing a diet has been a real challenge.

After a long talk with my doctor and his nutritional staff, we've decided that my best course of action is to watch my carbs, fiber, protein, and fats, plus my overall caloric intake. Finding FS to help me track all the things I need to track was a God-send and I am grateful to be here.

I started my journey after a doctor visit where my A1C registered 10.4! For the past 18 months, it has been steadily climbing and I've done nothing about it. When I hit the double digits, it suddenly all became real. I have grandchildren I want to see grow up!

I'm 54, not 94, and it's time for me to quit sitting around waiting to die. I want to not only stay alive, I want to LIVE! I want to have the energy to enjoy my grandchildren, do the things in life that excite me, and quit being a spectator in my own life. So my friends... here we go.

Welcome. I am in the same boat as you. I am 52 and 235 pounds. I started a month ago. I have chosen the same basic plan. Watch everything. Fat carbs protein and calories. I am staying around 1500 calories and have lost 10 pounds in a month. I love FatSecret for the fact that what I am eating is not a secret anymore. And chart everything so I can see what I am doing right or wrong.

Good for you! ❤️and welcome. I found low carbs and calorie counting is the best for me long term. There are a lot of different diets that work like WW point counting or Keto didn’t work for me. I love this app. And daily make my entries. Some days I go over but make-up the overages in the next few days. I now belong to TOP’s where I weigh in once a week KEEP ME ON TRACK & have met friends on the same journey. You Go Girl! 🌸

Wow thanks for all the great comments. Right now, I'm really struggling with what to eat and when I can't figure it out, I eat nothing. I gotta do better. I'm actually not eating enough right now (under 1000 calories most days), but until I find some good low carb choices, I'm sorry of floundering...

Welcome! We all have something that encouraged us to get "fit", I think for me it was also the fact that I have grandkids I want to see graduate from school and I want to keep up with them... I agree lets start "living" and if you need some support I am here daily to check in, I am 57 and have 3 wonderful 6-11 year old grandkids that love to hike! I want to go with them this summer and not just look at the pictures! I am down 17 lbs since February 1st and my clothes feel wonderfully loose again, looking forward to clothes shopping in a normal store by the end of the year (that is my 1st goal!) You keep up with your calorie counts it does work, that is all I am doing at this point.

Breathe in life! Good luck and just remember there are ups and downs but results come from staying the course. If you fall off--make it rare. Then, get back on quick before you let self-loathing grab your spirit. Life is a beautiful gift--each day precious.

Welcome! I can't imagine your struggle and what you have been through . I do feel what you are saying and I wish you the best . I do know losing weight is very hard I had a difficult childhood and when I got older I started eating more and gaining weight . I had hypertension when I was in the eight grade. Now thanks to hbp and my weight . I now struggle with a hernia from Lisinopril coughing alot , acid reflux, arthritis in my back and knee etc. Believe me when I say this journey is long and hard. I have to pray myself through sometimes just to make it through the day. I have faith that we will succeed because we want to and because we have too . I think it is great when you have support like this team of practical strangers . Who don't know us from Eve or Adam willing to reach out and help . It brings tears to my eyes and I am overjoyed to see so much love in one place. Good luck on your journey and God bless.

I understand. Being in my 50’s as well and facing some health issues I have allowed them to take over my life. 🤦🏻‍♀️But no more. I want a life so I’ve been fighting back! Just like some others on here to get all we can out of ourselves to be healthier!🙋🏻

What a testimony! Today is my first day. I am 60 and, I too, have Type II Diabetes, hypertension, and suffer from PTSD. You give me hope. Thank you all for your comments.

Proud of you to realize this. Lots of great people here to help you along your journey. If you cannot figure out what to eat, you still need to eat!!! Don't put yourself behind the eight ball. Have a great day

Thanks for the support! I am eating, just trying to be careful about what I eat. I hope you all have a great day too.

Welcome to the journey. I woke up to how being fat was killing me when I was in my 50's and now I am 66 and doing fine. I have the typical arthritis but I am very mobile and no longer have hypertension. You will figure out the foods that work for you and succeed! Glad you decided to "go public".
