HCB's Journal, 24 April 2017

Happy Monday, my Best Buddies:

I feel repetitive - exercise great, nutrition adequate. This week I want to get myself back on track which means getting low carb and increasing the fats so I stop craving crap.

I need a kick in the A$$.

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle - Tom Venuto

Short Range Goals:
* Macros 60%-70% fat, 20-30% protein, 10% carbs - better under 10%!
* Back in the "Blue" on Idiot Boxes while retaining muscle - June?
* Schedule a bodyfat % reading with trainer for May?
* Drink at least 12 - 16 cups of fresh water daily - especially on gym days
* Continue HIIT mixed in with weight lifting four to five days a week
* Keep up the training notebook to achieve progressive overload

Long Range Goals: 2017
*Bodyfat at 20% (Current 24.5%) by year end 2017
*Maintain Idiot Boxes around 152-158lbs staying under goal weight
*Increased strength, endurance and flexibility during workouts
Words of the Week:“Temptation is not to be feared, but controlled.”
I am dedicated, determined and diligent!

It's tough to get back on track once you've let yourself slide a little. It took me 3 days of really fighting with myself to lose the cravings. Hang in there...you got this!

I remember a bit back that you had flipped your protein/fat ratio; how did that work for you? Did it make you crave carbs, or did you try it out during the winter holidays (when any diet can be challenging)? Just curious.

kudos you sound committed and I hope you are successful. That being said you should talk to a nutritionist about your Fat/Protein/Carb ratios that look all out of whack. In my experience they are all wrong , so I urge contacting an expert.

Nutritionists have all the expertise of a third grader reciting the Food Pyramid.

Wow Phil and Sarah, Well I got to CrossFit 5 times a week so a mixture of Cardio and weight lifting for an hour each visit. Since the beginning of 2017 I started eating a diet of 40% protein, 30% fat, and 30% carb and I have lost 36 lbs. I started at 277.4 and weight in a 241.4 just yesterday. I was involved with a Nutrition challenge at CrossFit from January 30 to April 25. Where we dunked and got our lean body mass accurately determined and measured our progress. During that time I lost 26.8 lbs, 3 lbs of muscle mass so a 6.4% reduction in my body fat. I went from 268.2 to 241.4. I am not a nutritionist, but eating "Macros 60%-70% fat, 20-30% protein, 10% carbs - better under 10%" Is not correct and I have the experience to show for it. I will admit the food pyramid is not ideal, but it is not as upside down as HCB's ratios. Motivation and persistence is key and HCB appears to have it. I just know his macros are off and tried to be polite about seeking some more knowledge. Crash diets will never allow you to transition back to normal eating. Good Luck HCB

I lost 250 pounds in less than a year, 1966guy, working similar macros to what Helen (HCB) is doing, she's lost more than you have, too, you really should check other people's stats before blowing your own horn.

This should be a place everyone lifts each other up. No sense in being rude people! Wow!!!

I've never tracked macros but I can see how creating eating "boundaries" can help a dieter become more disciplined. I'm not big on bread, potatoes, pasta or rice; as a result, my meals are protein & veggies, or fresh fruit & nuts for breakfast. Portion size is the issue for gaining/losing.

Totally agree, AndeP, 1966guy should have stopped after the first sentence in his first post on this thread.

Lots of ways to skin a cat. Just because something works for one doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Everyone has to make their own way.

Here's a "kick" I believe I've received one from you before :-D we can do it!

yeah, well thought I was helping obviously not and tried to support in my own way, but got slammed about nutritionists and 3rd graders. Good Luck you silenced me, this is my last comment. All the best in your endeavors.

Don't take it so hard, 1966guy, you offered your opinion, I offered mine.

Nobody is trying to chase you away. It's really easy to become as dogmatic in diet as in religion. I find I need to switch it up from time to time.
