Pleasantly surprised to see even a small drop - my sewer line collapsed three weeks ago and had to be replaced, so the house/yard is a disaster, and routines/schedules went out the window. I'm really glad I didn't gain! It has been a very educational month, though - I will share with you the things I learned.

• Plumbers have larger egos than surgeons. If you question them, even gently, they will fly off in a tizzy not unlike a missed-nap-two-year-old-cracked-out-on-sugar. Tread very CAREFULLY around the plumbers, or you’ll find yourself without sewer system for a weekend.
• A bathroom, with all the fixtures removed, is surprisingly spacious, and can be used to hide in when the children are looking for you
• A storm sewer is not the same thing as a main sewer. Don’t ask me how I know that, or how it’s different, you don’t want to know.
• Surprisingly, human fecal matter does not lose its form in the sewer, it remains in much the same shape it was excreted
• Corn is indigestible
• If you bake cheese biscuits and make curry soup for the heavy equipment operators in your back yard, they will level your soil for you at no charge. Sadly, they don’t understand what “grading” is, so you’ll have to hire someone real to do it again.
• If you pile soil too close to your brand new fence, it will rot the boards
• If a heavy equipment operator says “don’t worry about it, it’s no problem” in response to your expressed concern that a 2 x 6 fence base is not strong enough to withstand the pressure of a caterpillar earth mover, you should immediately worry, and not believe him, because you will turn out to be right, and have to have your fence repaired.
• A large dog can carry twice its weight in mud into the house, and shed it all at the same time onto the floors and couches. Mud will NOT fall off the dog while the dog is outdoors.
• Teenagers, when told they cannot use the toilets, take this news very, VERY personally, and will refuse to speak to you for up to three days.

So here I am, .8 lbs lighter, and OH so much wiser! The nightmare continues - two bathrooms and a laundry room have to be completely refinished, a new sub floor has to be built, the back yard has to be returned to SOME semblance of usability, and I have to say...my timing is less than impeccable. Trying to find your insurance agent during the worst natural disaster in Canadian history is very, very challenging. Ah well! This too shall pass! Peace (and good sewers!) to everyone - I hope your journeys are going well!

You are a very wise woman! :) So glad you can keep your humor around you as you go through this. And hiding from the children is an art form - you have just achieved ninja status...

That sounds like a total nightmare. I lived in an appartment years ago and sewage from the neighbor's appartment backed up into my toilet. The toilet was overflowing with their waste on to my bathroom floor. Super vile! Parts of diapers, feces, urine, grease.........it's like they were dumping everything down their toilet. Kudos on the 0.8 pounds lighter. I hope everything gets taken care of in a timely manner for you. Hugs.

Thank you, New - I figure with a comfy chair and a reading light, I could stay in there all summer! The door still locks...I've always wanted a reading room...;-)

Thanks Engeland - me too! Unfortunately, when the reclamation crew showed up to start the demolition in the laundry room, they found asbestos, so now we WAIT. Specialty asbestos remover crews are in high demand, we'll get one when we get one, and work in that room has to halt before they get that crap out of there. Ah well, ONE working toilet is better than NO working toilets - even with 6 people in the house, and two of them are "preeners" in the bathroom. Interestingly, the preeners are NOT the females in the house! Of course, I mock them. Unrelentingly :-)

Mocking the children-people is the fun part. Makes up for other things lol

They found asbestos? Oh my. Well, maybe this was a blessing in disguise, well....I hate to call it a blessing. You would have never known about the asbestos if this hadn't happened. Asbestos exposure isn't good and you don't want it in your home. You sound in good spirits and positive given your circumstances. Hang in there. And yes, one working toilet is better than none.
